When the dismembered corpse of an American tourist turns up half-eaten by bears in the wood near Algonquin Bay, detective John Cardinal is assigned to the case. Usually his small-town cases practically solve themselves, but not only does he not have a single lead this time, but both the RCMP and CSIS get involved. Then a well-respected woman is found frozen under a glaze of ice, and Cardinal realizes that the two very different murders might well be linked.

A lovely package arrived in my mailbox today from sweet aunt-sophie in Canada! I'm curious to read a book by this Canadian mystery author I've heard little more than the name of before, and along the surprise book came a lovely Morning Glory letter pad. A perfect way to be cheered up on a day when I sort of needed it! :)

I finished this today! I thought it started out a bit slow, but developed into an enjoyable mystery. And although I've never been in Canada, the book definitely gave me a Canadian feel! :) It will now travel as a surprise to a friend!

I finished this on a train journey last night, and I certainly enjoyed it. The earlier part did take some time laying out a rather multifacated senario but the whole came rather nicely together in the end. John Cardinal is an interesting character, with more depth being revealed in each book.
