Thanks, Lesehest! The book was in my mailbox when I got home from the monthly BC-meeting in Oslo this evening. And by coincidence we were discussing Jane Austen spin-offs:) So what will I think of this, I wonder?

An ok read, but where does Jane Austen come into the picture? Surely the destinies of these people would have made an interesting novel on their own had they been told in more depth.

Brought it home from todays BC-meet.
Never heard of neither book nor writer but I love Jane Austen,
(at least she is in the title :-)

Update January 29 - 2011.

Finished the book this morning - & liked it.
Jane Austen makes up the chapters and flitters around the edges. Her books are not discussed and analyzed but the main characters seem to truly love her books and have included them in their daily lives.
- and as is also commented on in the book:
- they all end up either dating or married at the end - as Jane would have wanted.

As mentioned by Sota, above, I also would have liked to know more about the different characters, they all seem interesting - good humorous backstories.
- all in all I truly enjoyed the book.

This book actually went home with me at that meetup, I've just been forgetting to journal it till now. I'm slow like that. :-) In the meantime, I've read the book. It was an OK read, hardly a new favorite, but enjoyable. It was more well written than well plotted ... the writing is very good, IMO, but the plot seems a little contrived in that the Jane Austen part is kind of tacked on. Seems a little unnecessary ... the book would have worked on its own without this conceit which has clearly been chosen to cash in on the current Austen mania. This makes me think rather less of the author. But the characters are appealing and believable, and I did enjoy the book ... I just think, like several previous readers, that the author should have trusted more to her own powers as a writer.

I'll bring this to our next meetup and see if more of the regulars are interested in it. :-)
