I just finished the first book in the series and completely fell in love with it, so I can't wait to get to this one!

Journal Entry 2 by rapturina from Rotterdam, Zuid-Holland Netherlands on Saturday, November 17, 2007
Finished reading this a while ago, but forgot to write a journal entry. :D

Very enjoyable, it's amazing how Philip Pullman creates all these completely believable worlds and builds up the story within them. The ending is rather sad, I think, but I suppose we can't have fairytale endings all the time. :D

P.S. Suzy26 has this book on her wishlist

Journal Entry 5 by dutch-flybabe from Lent (gem. Nijmegen), Gelderland Netherlands on Wednesday, March 5, 2008
I did not look forward to finishing this book because it's the last of the trilogy and I didn't want this wonderful story to end. But the story ended and it was rather sad...

SPOILERS!!!:
I enjoyed reading how Mary made the spyglass, because I still wonder what the alethiometer looks like and how it was made.
After finishing the book these questions remain in my mind:
- how did the angel know all the windows had to be closed ?
- who discovered opening a window creates a spectre ?
- did fighting parties stop fighting, because Metatron and the Authority died and there was no reason to fight anymore?
Did I miss something ...?

Thanks again rapturina for sending me this book. After my husband reads the book I'll probably send it on to suzy26 who has the book on her wishlist.

Voor als mijn lief het boek uit heeft:

Thanks dutch-flybabe

Journal Entry 7 by SiteBuilder from Ede, Gelderland Netherlands on Wednesday, May 14, 2008
After reading part 1 and 2 of this trilogy I was very much looking forward to the last book.
I can only say that I'm dissapointed. If I compare part 3 with 1 and 2 it's got a lot more pages.
For me it contains a lot of 'filling' which made me quite bored with it.

And I *did* receive it last week... it'll have to wait a little bit... just started reading the subtle knife.

"If we live our lives properly and think about them [the dead] as we do, then there'll be something to tell the harpies about, as well. We've got to tell people that, Lyra".
"For the *true stories*, yes," she said, "the true stories the harpies want to hear in exchange. Yes. So if people live their whole lives and they've got nothing to tell about it when they've finished, then they'll never leave the world of the dead. We've got to tell then that, Will."
"Alone, though...."
"Yes," she said, "alone."

Thanks Lyra, thanks (free) Will and thank you Philip Pullman for giving me hours and hours in all these worlds. I will never be able to look at dust the way I did before :-)

What a timing. I'm in the last chapter of the subtle knife.

Beautifull story. very exciting, but the ending is poorly written.

Philip Pullman creates a beautifull world and he pulls you in the story. Sadly the ending was nothing of this sort. he ends it to fast. You miss a lot. answers still not been answered. At that point I agree with dutch-flybabe at that point.

He is a good writer but has to work on his endings

Journal Entry 15 by wingdutch-bookwing from Heerenveen , Fryslân (Friesland) Netherlands on Monday, March 16, 2009
Yesterday I have given this book to Marsala. I haven't read the book myself, because I had the feeling I was missing too much of the story, because it is written in English. So I finally decided to get the book in Dutch here in the library and maybe when I'm better in reading english I will read this book in english.

Journal Entry 16 by marsala from - Ergens in de provincie, Noord-Brabant Netherlands on Saturday, June 13, 2009
Very interesting book. I still loved the idea of dust and the daemons and the travelling from world to world. Like the others I'm not to sure about the ending. It feels like the story hasn't ended yet and that there should be another book. I'm gonna contact the next reader for her adress now.

A more than worthy sequel to Northern Lights and The Subtle Knife. The story kept me spellbound until the very end. Philip Pullman is so good at creating this very special atmosphere that is quite mesmerizing and the characters are all worked out well. I was especially awestruck by the parts that were set in the world of the dead. The images these scenes evoked sent shivers down my spine and moved me quite a bit. I had no problem at all with the ending of the story. It definitely wasnot too fast and I don't see how the story could have ended differently.

As soon as I have Talamasca's address I'll send the book on.

Journal Entry 20 by Talamasca from Amsterdam, Noord-Holland Netherlands on Thursday, July 9, 2009
Yippie! Part 3! I'll start reading it as soon as my other book is finished.

Journal Entry 21 by Talamasca from Amsterdam, Noord-Holland Netherlands on Monday, August 24, 2009
Great story!
The last chapter(s) is(are) sort of "o my god I have to put an end to this how will I do that in a kinda believeble way with all loose ends tied"
It must be awsome to see dust! And I'm not talking about the kind that's represented in my house!
I'm gonna send it to Yinny.

I don't like the end because i'd rather seen that they'd live happely ever after... The end for Lyra I did like.
That the headmaster decided to use his own money to send Lyra to the boarding school that would be good for her was great. Also that Mary and Will stick together and that Mary is goïng to help Will with his mother and all problems... But still I would like to read more about them... About Will and his Mother, about Mary and her problems with her superiors, does she learn to speak with her deamons? And ofcourse about Lyra and her new carriere, Does she like it at St. Sophia's?
O, and I loved Iorek Byrnison! Must be great to know such a great creature! A true king!
