7 out of 10

From Publishers Weekly:
Following a near-death experience, the owner of a vintage clothing store in Atlanta discovers that she can see dead people—and worse, hear them—in this sprightly but derivative series launch. When Nicki Styx awakens in the hospital after a heart attack, she doesn't intend to let her newfound heart defect cramp her funky style—but a series of close encounters with ghosts might, particularly her meeting with a murdered friend, Caprice, who seems intent on dragging Nicki into the voodoo underworld. On the plus side, the clinical interest of sexy emergency room doctor Joe Bascombe (who's researching near-death experiences) warms into a fascination with Nicki herself; he has more than a little trouble, however, accepting her otherworldly encounters. As threats to Nicki and her friends mount, lively writing may keep genre fans reading, but the episodic plot feels slight, and Nicki is frustratingly uninterested in her own backstory (for instance, Nicki is adopted, but shows little curiosity when Joe suggests his estranged wife might be Nicki's identical twin).

What a great read! Sure the whole I can speak to ghosts thing has been done before but this new series has great characters and a nice plot and is well worth reading.

I loved the main characters and enjoyed the storyline alot. The voodoo twist was interesting and the author obviously researched this well. Also there were a few twists...one big twist wasn't resolved so I hope it will be in the next book!

Fun and easy this was a perfect read for Sunday morning. I can't wait for the next book to come in 2008! Write faster!! ;)

First I was disappointed about the way this "I can speak to ghosts " thing was introduced. Nothing new here. Nicki is a nice character and I liked her ... still after nearly 100 pages I wasn't hooked. For me the story developed too slow :(
With a looming Mt.TBR this book shall find a devoted reader soon than later!

Sorry you didn't like this one Rianonne!

This goes into my PC with the sequel 'A Match Made in Hell' that I got from the author Terri Garey.
