A Short Synopsis
When Daniel Stone was a child, he was the only white boy in a native Eskimo village where his mother taught, and he was teased mercilessly because he was different. He fought back, the baddest of the bad kids: stealing, drinking, robbing and cheating his way out of the Alaskan bush – where he honed his artistic talent, fell in love with a girl and got her pregnant. To become part of a family, he reinvented himself – jettisoning all that anger to become a docile, devoted husband and father. Fifteen years later, when we meet Daniel again, he is a comic book artist. His wife teaches Dante’s Inferno at a local college; his daughter, Trixie, is the light of his life – and a girl who only knows her father as the even-tempered, mild-mannered man he has been her whole life. Until, that is, she is date raped…and Daniel finds himself struggling, again, with a powerlessness and a rage that may not just swallow him whole, but destroy his family and his future.

To be honest I was disappointed with this book. I don't think it was up to the same standard as the others. Maybe it was the cartoon's amongst the text that turned me off.

This book just arrived with me this morning, and what perfect timing! Just last night I finished "Mercy" by Jodi Picoult so I'm ready to go again and have a bit of a marathon on her books! I shall start this tonight on my bus home...

I'm interested to see how this book compares to "Mercy" as that was my first Picoult book and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Many thanks to Linda for sharing this with us.

Well, before I mention the good bits about this book, I really need to have a whinge about the very, very, very many typing and grammatical errors in this book! I cannot believe it was published in this state… I was finding mistakes on every 3rd or 4th page and it was driving me mad by the end!

That said, other than the errors and the cartoons (which I skipped over) I actually really enjoyed this book. And that was despite finishing another of her books the day earlier!

I really loved the character of Daniel – I felt like I’d really like to know a man like him, and I loved the bits about his Alaskan past – I found them fascinating and I even felt how cold it was!

The character of Trixie did end up grating on my nerves, but I guess that was to be expected; however I had hoped that I'd be proven wrong!

All in all an easy read and a good book, but it wasn’t an “earth shattering, can’t wait to tell everyone to read it” experience.

Many thanks for sharing this with me – I appreciate it.

I’ll get this book off in the mail this week hopefully so it can keep traveling.

This book arrived on my doorstep today, and I've already read the first chapter. I have to say, it bodes well for the rest of the book. Thanks for sharing!

I absolutely loved this book. I felt that jodi captured the emotions and thought processes of a rape victim perfectly and I totally related to what she had to say about parenthood. The figures quoted were a little alarming. Why bother going through the terrible trauma of a court case when only just over 16% of offenders wind up going to gaol?

The only thing that stopped me from giving this a ten were the (very annoying) comics scattered throughout the book. I've never been a comic book fan and I found these distracting.

If you can ignore the comics, The Tenth Circle is definitely worth a read.

I will post this book in the next couple of weeks because I want to re-read it first.
