Book Description
George Eliot's Middlemarch (1871-72) is one of the classic novels of English literature and was admired by Virginia Woolf as "one of the few English novels written for grown-up people." The complex main plot and many subplots revolve around Dorothea Brooke, an ardent young woman, and her relationship to three men: Casaubon, a clergyman and scholar twice her age; Lydgate, an ambitious young doctor who shares Dorothea's enthusiasm for reform but whose flaws compromise his ambitions; and Will Ladislaw, a young man of mysterious origins, romantic temperament, and artistic inclinations. A female Bildungsroman and a study of character and society in the realistic mode pioneered by Balzac, Middlemarch is also an historical novel that offers a panorama of English society in an era of social reform and political agitation.

I digitised the tapes for me so I could also listen to Middlemarch on my mp3-Player - and that's what took me so long. I have to leave my Computer all alone then to avoid desastrous windows-crashs or disturbing noises. I hope, the recording is not too silent to listen to in the fitness-studio ;-)

I'm not entirely done with listening to the audiobook yet, but I already like it. It will travel on to krab-te asap!

Tried several times to listen to it, but got confused about all the different people and their connection.
Since yesterday it's travelling on to GirlFromIpanema

Started listening now, but will let it travel on so that people don't have to wait.
Harriet Walter read at a fast pace, so I did need to get used to that.
As I loved Jane Austen and Elizabeth Gaskell, I am looking forward to hear another British classic :-).
