The narrator of this beautifully written story is an unnamed librarian. A young woman who has carried the guilt of her mother's death she was 8 years old. She has become "the ice queen" ;cold, unable to love herself or anyone else. She leaves New Jersey after her grandmother's death on the advice of her older brother who is a professor at a university in Florida. He sets her up in a small cottage near where he lives with his wife, Nina. While living in FL, our narrator is struck by lightning. She enters a "study" for strike victims and discovers there is a man who has defied death, Lazarus Jones. She searches for this man, finds him and discovers he is her opposite. He can even set fire to paper by breathing on it. (Talk about some hot sex!?!?!!)
Anyway, the story is not just about the relationship between the two of them but also about self discovery, acceptance, forgiveness, and renewal.

okay so I borrowed this book (along with several others) from "cafekat". She told me I would love it. Well, I didn't. It was okay but I would not have been sorry if I had not read this one. Thanks anyway. You usually don't steer me wrong.

received this from cafekat in a Birthday RABCK exchange.

I was going through my bookshelves today trying to achieve some kind of order and to organize for some 2009 reading challenges. I realized that I never journaled this one, so I apologize for taking so long to do that!

Thanks for the book and for all the little goodies!
