This book came in my mail on Tuesday 3/25! What a cheerful surprise with cute shiny ladybug and flower stickers on the package, and pink heart confetti spilling out of the book!! I needed a little cheer that day!
I'm already half-way through the book- will write another journal note when I finish it!

I've already read The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. This book is a well written and very powerful account of her rape when she was in college.
This book recounts her day by day experiences, reporting the crime, moving back home, and the trial. She also describes the impact this rape had on not only herself, but also her family and friends. I felt she had such strength and courage to survive it all and try to go on with her life, even though she stumbled at times.
This book is now going to AmberLee17 in California!

Received today, complete with glitter confetti! Judging by the subject matter, I may need it before this is done. Thanks!

Disturbing, but healing also. Quite stark at times. It was a difficult book to read due to the subject matter, but also a hard book to put down. Her account of the suspect identification parade and the trial itself were almost as harrowing as the rape itself.

I hope this has given me new insight into helping others through trauma.

Journal Entry 9 by KarinAlyssa on Tuesday, July 27, 2004
I finished the book last night and I didn't know how to react. At the beginning, everything was all right until she was assaulted. After that, I was angry at the cops, the lawyers and judge her parents, her friends, the rapist and even at her because I didn't like the way the rapist's search and after the way the trial was going. I wanted the guy into jail the quickest way possible and I couldn't understand the casual way he talked to Alice Sebold.

One of my friends was raped when she was 5 and she explained some bits to me, but that's disturbing to me because the guy was never arrested because she was too young to testify and didn't remember him that much except his eyes and feet. Another friend had her niece iniated to sex by her grandfather, but her sister can't do anything since her ex has visiting right and doesn't believe his daughter. Plus, the little girl is too young to testify. So, I guess she was lucky in a way, she got stronger and the rapist went in jail. This woman has a lot of inner strength and courage, I'll read her next book, that's for sure. She writes well too. It's concise and not very stylish or fancy, but she finds the right word and everything flows even if the reality is harsh.

Still, she didn't have an easy life, I don't know if it would have been easier if she didn't have been raped, but I'm not sure. I read The Lovely Bones and it was also a powerful book. This one touched me more as I am at the same stage as was Alice at that time and I do walk late at nights sometimes. I'm more afraid now that I was before, but also more alert.

I'm waiting on retrogirl1977's address and I'll mail it to her later this week. Thank you very much RaftQueen for sharing this moving book.

This is a fabulous book. it is hard hitting, sensitive emotional and highly addictive. I dont think enjoyed is the right word to choose to describ how much i 'enjoyed' it, but i couldnt put it down. Alice Sebold should be an inspiration to all. This is an absolute must-read!
Thanks to Karin Alyssa for thinking of me! ;-)
