Journal Entry 1 by lizzyblack from Kinsale, Co. Cork Ireland on Saturday, September 15, 2007
Wynter Morrison -- first introduced in the bestselling Bread Alone -- has found contentment in a life very different from anything she ever imagined: making bread on the night shift, learning the fine points of running a bakery, and exploring the possibilities of a relationship with Mac, her on-again, off-again love interest.

But Mac's failure to deal with issues in his past creates friction, Wyn's soon-to-be-ex husband is turning their divorce into guerrilla warfare, and she is reminded of how quickly life can reverse direction without warning.

Mac's abrupt departure is a shock, but conflicts at the bakery and her friend Tyler's tragic loss afford Wyn little time for brooding. Then letters from Mac begin to arrive, casual and distant at first, but gradually becoming more personal and revealing.

In his absence, Wyn finds she not only learns more about Mac but also about herself, as she becomes Tyler's mentor, passing on the wisdom and healing power of bread making. Her new self-awareness and resiliency will be tested when the Queen Street Bakery's existence is threatened, as well as when Mac returns and she must decide whether there is still a place for him in her life.

Well, it took me a bit to read it all. I entered a challenge who made me put apart this book, but I finally managed to read it :) I loved it, and I should say I probably loved it more than the first! Maybe because Mac was actually my fave carachter, and we discover more of him in this book. It' like more 'shaped', and furthermore the end of the book is just great, but I don't want to tell you more about this :P

First and foremost thanks goes to Lizzyblack for allowing me to participate in this bookring! I believe I've found a new favorite author in Judith Ryan Hendricks, although I think I liked Bread Alone a bit better. I do hope there is a 3rd book featuring Wynter in the making as the ending of this left me wanting more. Having been a life long baker and gardener I could easily relate to several things in this book, the corresponding creativity in both as it relates to life, how one tends to hide in one's passions when not knowing where else to turn, how easy it is to turn one's life to nurturing others through baking etc and neglecting one's own self.

I am including a recipe or two along with the book and it is being forwarded to Kiki66 tomorrow :)

Well, the book is back in Europe again - safe and sound and will be read asap...
I think I might start tonight ;-)

Thanks for sending it, oi-reader!

Yes, this was a lovely book again.. and I certainly hope there will be a third sequel.. this ending simply asks for more!!
I also loved Wyn's phrase of Mac's "Babe-I-gotta-leave-you-the-highway's-calling-bullshit-blues" :-)
though I do not know how I would cope with a guy who just leaves me not telling when or if he will come back!

Anyway.. I asked for Penelope's address so the book will soon be on its way again!

Edit: the book went to Switzerland on December, 27th! Gute Reise!

This arrived in the Alps here today (I wonder where it went for New Years...?!) Anyway, although I have a ring or two in front of it I look forward to reading it! I enjoyed the first, and have a ring going around for Isabel's Daughter - this is an author I enjoy! (contact me if you'd like to join that ring - it's almost home now).
Thanks so much for including me here. Happy new year!

I finished reading this last night and am now waiting for the address of the next person to send it on. I enjoyed this very much... almost feels like the author has left it slightly open-ended so that yet a sequel could come. I do enjoy her style of writing. I felt the title was slightly askew - it would imply the focus should have been on Tyler, which I really did not feel it was. Or have I missed something profound here?
Anyway, very good read, and I'll send it as soon as I know where. Thanks so much for making it available!

RELEASE NOTES:

Turns out the next in line has moved to Denmark, so this book with it's little supply of recipes is on its way to Scandanavia. I've photocopied all the recipes and kept the originals in the book. Great read, thanks.

On top of moving from the Alps to Scandinavia, this book caught me in the process of moving to one flat to the other. I'm therefore happy to announce that my first parcel to the new address has been a bookcrossing book ;O)
It actually arrived couple of days back, exactly when we moved the internet connection to the new place, and guess what, we had to fight our way to the web. Well, at least I had time to read, in the meantime.

I guess I prefered "Bread alone" over this book, but it's a difficult choice, I enjoyed both readings. It's not exactly a "literary" novel (whatever that means), so I was positively surprised by the complexity of the characters and by the not-so-happy ending. I found moving the scene when the auction house guys come to pick up all the bakery appliances. I guess I know how it feels when you see your old life brought away in pieces and you don't know what you're doing next or where.

Now there's a couple more things to do, for me. I'll contact the next person in the list, I'll dig out a good recipe (lately I'm quite into bread baking, maybe one of my favs will do) and, last but absolutely not least, I'll make a copy of all of your tempting recipes! Thanks Lizzy for the ring!!

I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm terribly sorry to have slowed down this ring. It got caught in one of my (many) movings. But now it's leaving again - direction Florence!!

I liked the book very very much, though I' ve preferred Bread Alone the most. Anyway, I also like Mac so I hope there will be a book n.3, and many more recipes!
Sent this morning to Tilly!

Arrived, thanks!

Funny and delicious, I also hope there will be another sequel!
I have to confess that I skipped the recipes -__-' , all that food makes me want to eat, not to cook, I am hopeless!!
I really like the couple Wyn-Mac and their uneasy choices... and I love the character of Tyler, she's like a damaged puppy!

Thank you Liz, it will leave soon!
