finished this early this morning. what a beautiful book. having read some of his books, when i ordered this book online i was expecting a different tone to it since it's a memoir.

but it's a Sparks so what do you expect. it started light and funny but during the last pages i couldn't hold my tears back, it's that moving. it has that recognizable Sparks' trademark of a tearjerker. it's not at all depressing but i was deeply touched all the same. this book has made me want to read his other books - i know they're all sitting quietly on the shelf somewhere. we have the complete set of his work - my mom is such a fan.

but seriously though, i'm amazed at this man. great writer!

i'm offering this as a bookring. yes i'd like to read it again.

I have to agree with ann-718my, this is a beautiful book! I have already read many of Sparks' books and I loved them all. That's why Nicholas Sparks is one of my favorite authors. This book also lets the reader know where he got the inspiration for his novels and that's just a nice thing to know, it makes me appreciate his other work even more.

This is a touching memoir, stories about the trip alternating with stories about their childhood and family. Nicholas and Micah have been through a lot together and it has made them strong. They both have their own family now but this book shows how the past keeps following them... in a good way, with beautiful memories about their parents and sister.

There are sad moments in this book and ofcourse I haven't been able to keep from crying either (all his books have that effect on me), especially since I've lost my father and grandma last November. In a way the Sparks' story was also some sort of consolation to me. Nicholas and Micah are lucky to have eachother, it must be really nice having siblings to hold on to.

I'll be sending this lovely book to timollie5502 in the US tomorrow. Thanks for sharing ann-718my!

PS: I'll be sending the lovely bookmark, that came with book, along.

I finished this last night, and am so happy I had a chance to read it. It was a beautiful memoir, which meant so much to read after enjoying Nicholas Sparks's novels for so long.

Edit: Finally was able to communicate with hopi - my PM's were offline for a while, sorry about the delay.
This book was mailed on 4/10/08.

I loved this book! It was so moving, and so introspective ... just what I needed. This is actually my first foray into Sparks' work, and I'm looking forward to reading more from him. Thanks so much for sharing this!

I've PM'd kobie03 and will send this out as soon as I hear back!

Loved it. I liked how his stories of the travels interacted with his stories of growing up and the closeness of the brothers, memories of Dana and their Mom, how the family lost its center when his Mom died, many of us who have lost our Moms find that. This story was a joy to read and reminds me to hold on to joy, find it in our lives and cherish it.Thanks Ann-718 for sharing this book.
I have Fran-kinstein's address so I'll get this in the mail to her.

Thanks Kobie03 for reminding me to journal this book! I didn't realize i hadn't journaled yet. I started taking an online course back in July when I recieved the book and it ruined my reading schedule.

But I dipped into the book last night. It's a wonderful book so far, but to be honest it seems it will be heartwarming but sorrowful. I might not be in the mood for this kind of material at the moment. My boyfriend and I just broke up and I need to focus on things that lighten my spirits. We'll see how it goes.

****later***
So I'm glad I haven't sent it back to you without reading it!! It's SOOO Good! I'm not at the sad parts yet I guess. And its pretty funny, been laughing out loud. Can't wait to read more...
