"The discovery of a dead infant in an Amish barn shakes Lancaster County to its core. But the police investigation leads to a more shocking disclosure: circumstantial evidence suggests that eighteen-year-old Katie Fisher, an unmarried Amish woman believed to be the newborn's mother, took the child's life. When Ellie Hathaway, a disillusioned big-city attorney, comes to Paradise, Pennsylvania, to defend Katie, two cultures collide - and for the first time in her high-profile career, Ellie faces a system of justice very different from her own. Delving deep inside the world of those who live "plain," Ellie must find a way to reach Katie on her terms. And as she unravels a tangled murder case, Ellie also looks deep within - to confront her own fears and desires when a man from her past reenters her life."

This is a 2nd copy of this book - I haven't read the story myself yet.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

RELEASE NOTES:

Sending this to dabercro for her birthday (although late ... I'm sorry). I've been hearing so much about Jodi Picoult lately that I can't wait to try some of her books. I look forward to hearing what you think of this one!

Journal Entry 3 by dabercro from Clinton, Utah USA on Saturday, September 22, 2007
I received the book in the mail yesterday. Thank you so much!! Jodi Picoult is one of my favorite authors. I hope to start this soon if no bookrings/rays come in first.

Journal Entry 4 by dabercro from Clinton, Utah USA on Friday, October 12, 2007
Another great read from Jodi Picoult. The book is an eye opening look at the Amish. Not only in the way they live but also in the way they think. The "Plain" people are not self-centered but live for the betterment of the whole community. Because of this, it made it very difficult for Ellie, her "English" lawyer, to defend Katie in the "English" court. Jodi's endings are never predictable. I was surpised by the ending.

Thank you again, Rhonder, for this birthday RABCK!!

The book arrived in the mail this weekend. I will start it tonight.

Journal Entry 7 by Aberpeter from Renton, Washington USA on Monday, November 5, 2007
I really enjoyed this book. I thought the beginning was very plot driven. (Ellie just so happened to need a break from her high-profile cases and boyfriend and just so happened to stay with her aunt Leda who just so happened to have another niece who has been charged with murder who just so happens to be Amish who just so happens to need a lawyer and someone to stay with her as part of her bail agreement in which Ellie just so happens to volunteer to do) Although, how else is an English person going to move onto an Amish farm if it isn't plot driven?

Overall, I really enjoyed the book and I couldn't put it down once Ellie moved onto the farm. I will be contacting the liviacaesar for an address so I can send the book on its way.

Journal Entry 10 by liviacaesar on Friday, November 30, 2007
I enjoyed the first half of this book a great deal. Great setup, great characters, great writing. It dragged a lot through the middle, especially the lawyer's plotline which was neither subtle nor interesting. I wish the ending had been more carefully thought out too.

I mailed this book on to rosepetal2 on Wednesday, November 28.

The "plain truth" is that I had a hard time getting into this book, almost quitting a couple of times. About the time I was almost a 100 pages in, I finally got interested in it, also I had the feeling that I had read it before but couldn't remember how it ended. I was disppointed in the ending...I would have liked to have found out how the jury decided the case. After reading 405 pages, I felt kind of cheated. This book will be on it's way home tomorrow, thanks for letting me read it.

Journal Entry 15 by dabercro from Clinton, Utah USA on Saturday, January 26, 2008

Plain Truth was the story of Katie Fisher, a young Amish girl, accused of killing her newborn child. Katie can recall anything about the birth of the child. Her attorney, and distant cousin has to fight to keep her out of jail.
I really loved this book. I thought it was one of Jodi Picoult's best books. I some times have a hard time with her endings but thought this one was perfect.
