Great dialogue makes this one of the better Spenser mysteries I've read in a long time. Hawks role is expanded, which is always a good thing for a Spenser book. There is a certain moment near the end where I thought Parker cheated a bit, but this shouldn't dissuade anyone interested in reading a very good detective novel.

Picked up at September Boston MeetUp. Looking forward to a good Spenser!
I leant this to my Mom and just got it back. She loved it but isn't a BookCrosser (despite my best tries!) so I'm just noting that she really liked it and then I'll be reading it.
Although the body count was considerably higher than a usual Spenser the real story was the relationship bewteen Hawk and Spenser and the different but overlapping worlds they inhabit. The dialouge bewteen them is great but I appreciate the role of Susan to be the person who gets it all explained in everyday English for us readers. She didn't get to do much else in this story except take two days to bake a pumpkin pie but that was fine, the story was really about Hawk and Spenser. Makes me want to go back and dig into the other Spenser's sitting on my shelf.

Picked this book up at the latest Boston Bookcrossing meetup. Looks like a great T read!
I usually like mystery/suspense novels, but this book reminded me a lot of No Country for Old Men. Someone walking around stalking people and killing them. A lot of pointless violence, not a lot of plot, and just plain boring. Sorry, folks, I'm not a fan. Hopefully someone who is a fan will find this book next. Oh well, back to Fearless Fourteen (by Janet Evanovich). Highly recommend that author!
