Bought from Smith's (whose science fiction section seems to be depressingly small, compared to when I used to shop there compulsively about 15 years ago). The trouble with collections of the early, unknown work of famous authors is that you find out *why* they were unknown. This volume covers 1939-1941, a time period in which Asimov produced a few really great stories (like the first of his robot stories). Unfortunately, because those stories have already been widely anthologised, they're not included in this collection, so what are left are the "also-rans" - good enough to have been published, but not good enough to be well known (the only story in this book which I have come across before is "Christmas on Ganymede"). I found most of them pretty dull, actually. If you're a die-hard Asimov fan, then this is worth reading just for completion, and some of the editorial comments about how much he struggled to get anything published in the early years are interesting, but if you've never read any Asimov, then I wouldn't recommend this as an introduction - go and buy "I, Robot" instead! ^ ^ 00 =+= v

Journal Entry 2 by futurecat at University of Canterbury, Science Lecture Block in Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand on Thursday, February 27, 2003
Released on Thursday, February 27, 2003 at University of Canterbury Science Lecture Block in Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand. On seat in north-east corner of ground floor. Left at 8.30 am on Friday 28 Feb. The cleaners were still around, but it looked like they were just packing up - I hope so, and that my book won't end up languishing in lost property.

i plan on leaving it somewhere around the campus, i will probably let the arts students have a go, as they often feel left out of things like this.

I found it in Northlands shopping mall and plan to read it as he is one of the great si-fi writers. Think the idea is brilliant and will drop it out near the airport to see if it can travel to a new city or country to spread the word.
