The narrator of the story is a resident in a nursing home in the 1980s where she is visited almost accidentally by a woman disatisfied by her life. The two quickly strike up a friendship and the visits become a very important part of both their lives. The story concerns the lives of the inhabitants of the small railroad town of Whistle Stop, Alabama during the 1920s - 1940s and in particular of the two women who run the cafe.
The book was made into a wonderful film a few years ago.
I will definitely be looking out for more books by Fannie Flagg.

Many thanks for sending this book. I think I did well to snaffle this one in the book swap. I haven't seen the film but I'm really looking forward to reading the book. This one is going to go high up near the top of Mt TBR!

An excellent read! A moving story about friendships with lovely characters that you get to know so well. Funny and sad in part it was so nice to read and by the end all is neatly tied up. Lovely little chapters that just encourage you to keep reading, however I have to say that I was confused at first with the jumping around of the story and I was up to page 200 before it all made sense. I'm very glad that I won this in the bookswap game and will be passing it on to Calalilly as I know she is waiting to read it.

Thanks for this book snoopy56. Fannie Flagg is a new author to me but I will definately be looking out for more of her books.

Thank you Purplerosebud for passing this onto me. I'm looking forward to reading it and watching the film of it you passed on as well. Unfortunately it will have to go on my tbr pile for a few weeks as I've got some ring books to read ahead of this.
