My mum, dad and sister all rated this highly so I have bought this copy to release. My boyfriend has a copy which I will read at some point and the journal for that copy can be found here. "Twelve-year-old Amir is desperate to win the approval of his father and resolves to win the local kite-fighting toumament, to prove that he has the makings of a man. His loyal friend Hassan promises to help him? for he always helps Amir? but this is 1970s Afghanistan and Hassan is merely a low-caste servant who is jeered at in the street, although Amir still feels jealous of his natural courage and the place he holds in his father's heart. But neither of the boys could foresee what would happen to Hassan on the afternoon of the tournament, which was to shatter their lives. After the Russians invade and the family is forced to flee to America, Amir realises that one day he must return, to find the one thing that his new world cannot grant him: redemption. Journal Entry 3 by ollietheman from Ilfracombe, Devon United Kingdom on Saturday, December 22, 2007
I found the book whilst having a check in Exeter Hospital.I was early for my appointment and went to have a tea, the book was on a the only table left. Actually one on my boys found it, he loves books and he's only 2 years old. On this day i not only found a book to read (which i think was great) but i got good news about my illness. I plan to release the book in another village in Devon, at a coffee shop. This book made me cry at times, the images it portrayed were truly eye opening and affecting. I did at one point have to stop reading it, due to not wanting to find out what happened to one of the characters but i went back to it and i am glad i did. The book is very well written and i hope who ever reads it next enjoys this book , if enjoy is the right word to use.
