This book happened to me like this... I picked it up at goodwill planning to use it for DragonGoddess's SFF challenge... I registered it, and made the mistake of looking at it twice, I had already liked the cover *ooh shiny seahorse creature thingy, pretty!*... I read the first page and thought, this sounds kinda fun... and so, it didn't get released, and it's still TBR, but I'm offering it in the VBB!
Here's a bit of an excerpt that Fantastic Fiction used as a blurb:
EVIL NEVER SLEEPS I almost regretted having Awareness. Without it, I wouldn't have noticed a thing; I would have been as oblivious to the danger as everyone else. I took a deep breath and tried to isolate the power to pinpoint who was using it, and - perhaps even more importantly - who was the victim of it. And, for the first time in my life, I failed miserably. The power was too great. It permeated the whole room and I could not track it down. I'd never seen the red of dunmagic spread so widely before. I'd never seen it roil is evil way so strongly. I wasn't used to my Awareness failing me - and I was frightened...

I just couldn't get into this one, I kept finding myself zoning out and thinking of other things, and having to go back and figure out what was going on. I'll be interested to see what Pepper thinks of it, because life's been hectic for me lately and I may just be too distracted to give it a proper read!
Arrived today. Thanks!
This book took me quite some time to get into, but I enjoyed it once I did. It was an interesting world, and I liked the format - the history as told to a person from elsewhere who you only meet through correspondence. I have to admit, however, that I got very frustrated not knowing what this "change" was - and we don't find out this book!
It's an interesting world, and one I'd be willing to return to, but I'm not going to actively look for the next book.

Nessa delivered this book in person at our meet-up on 22 January. It's going into the TBR stack for now.
