House Calls with John
1 journaler for this copy...
This was given to me by my Dad. It was given too him by the author, inscribed and autographed: "To Bill, with whom I share a future for a better, more peaceful world. John Rodebaugh, M.D." They were undergraduates together at Bates College in Lewiston, ME, after WWII.
They did not stay in touch after graduation, but this 2006 book was reviewed in the Bates alumni magazine. When Dad contacted the author to order a copy, they renewed the acquaintance.
Dad rates the book a "10" and Mom a "9" - I'll get to it whenever.
"Patients taught many lessons to Dr. Rodebaugh, a graduate of Harvard Medical School. He listened carefully, treated patients with respect, and was always avaialble for house calls. He spent three years with Cesar Chavez, whose nonviolent efforts to organize farm workers, along with the grape boycott, attracted many supporters of justice for exploited workers. Humor and pathos summarize the career of a compassionate physician, dedicated to serving the poor."
March 25, 2010 -Now that I've read it,I'm ready to let this one go. I've lost my Mom and see my Dad becoming ever more frail. I've cut my living space in half with this move. Culling my book shelves ALWAYS hurts, but it's time.
