Journey to Fantastica-where dreams become reality

Unicorns, dragons, sprites, will-o''-the-wisps: the inhabitants of an enchanted world. And into this world-through the pages of an old book-ventures Bastian, a lonely boy of ten. But Fantastica is slowly decaying, its Childlike Empress dying. Only a real human being can set things right by giving the Empress a new name. Bastian takes up the challenge, and finds himself crossing the Swamps of Sadness and the Silver Mountains, meeting sorcerers and giants, bats and night-hobs, gnomes and racing snails, as he journeys bravely toward the Ivory Tower.

Bastian''s quest is filled with all the wonders of myth and fairy tale. It is a fantasy adventure that willcapture your heart-and recapture the magical dreams of childhood.

This was the most amazing book I have ever read!! It brings the reader right into the story and makes them part of the Neverending Story. Truly Amazing! I knew that there was a reason this book came into my possession, and I truly loved it. I will not chance this jewel to a wild release, but will create a book ring for it. I hope everyone enjoys this classic as much as I did!

Safely received today. What a beautiful bookmark. I will be happy to sign this before I pass the book on.

I thought this was a remarkable read. As a straightforward adventure story it was good, but I kept finding all sorts of thought provoking ideas about childhood, personal development, philosophies on life, meaning - and so on and so on. This is a book one could probably read year after year and still find something to ponder on. Thank you so much Herchelle for giving me the chance to be part of the story. I will journal again as soon as it is on its way to SpiderLion.

I finished reading this book today and loved it. The storyline has much more to it than I could have ever anticipated. A very good book indeed.

G'day,

Just checking in to let you know I am safe and sound. I am having a nice visit with fairy-whispers before continuing on my travels. I hope you’re having as much fun as I am!

With Great Affection,

Your Book :-)

Journal Entry 9 by seldombites from Mount Barker, South Australia Australia on Sunday, July 6, 2008
This book contains so much more than the movie. In fact, the movie doesn't even cover the first half of the book. The Neverending Story is a great adventure that will be loved by kids and adults alike. It chronicles the coming-of-age of ten year old Bastion and demonstrates what can happen when all our wishes are granted. The importance of imagination (which I have always advocated) is highlighted in this book - in fact Fantastica depends on it. I would highly recommend this book to everyone - no matter the age.

Just got this book in the mail from fairy-whispers. Very exciting! I will check back when I have read it and am ready to send it on.

Journal Entry 12 by liviacaesar on Thursday, August 28, 2008
I sent this book off today to hopi100. I really enjoyed the start of the book, but then it started to get too dark and depressing for me. Not as much of a children's story as I expected. Thanks for letting me participate in the book ring!

Journal Entry 13 by hopi100 from Alexandria, Virginia USA on Saturday, August 30, 2008
This just arrived in my mailbox today. Thanks so much! I can't wait to get started! :)

I really enjoyed this book! It's something that I probably wouldn't have read without a ring to prod me along, but I really enjoyed the journey and am glad to have added this to my mental bookshelf. Thanks so much for sharing!

I've PM'd obxwani and will send this along when I hear back! I'll JE when I do. Thanks again!

ETA (10/21): I have obxwami's address in hand now and will be sending this along by the first of the week. Thanks!

Arrived today!! Hip! Hip! Hooray! I've only read the first few pages and I'm already neglecting my house and family. I'll post again when I'm finished.

Unitl then...

FINISHED! I ususally don't like to read a book after already seeing it on screen, but this was a pleasant suprise. Towards the end I was beginning to get bored and wondered how it could possibly come to an end, but it wrapped up rather nicely.

Thanks to herchelle for starting this bookring. I probably wouldn't have read this otherwise.

this book is now off to the next reader on the list...

Journal Entry 17 by jaenelle from Orlando, Florida USA on Monday, February 9, 2009
I thought I had journaled that I got this, but I guess I neglected to. So I'm checking in -- plan to get this started this weekend, and hopefully have it finished within a week or so after that. I've read it before and it reads pretty fast, if I remember right.

Journal Entry 18 by jaenelle from Orlando, Florida USA on Sunday, March 1, 2009
I've finished this, and it's just as wonderful as I remember it being. Thanks so much for starting this -- I hope the book will have many more journeys.

I've PM'ed the next person on the list and will send it off as soon as I hear from them.

Journal Entry 19 by Eucalia from Issaquah, Washington USA on Saturday, March 14, 2009
This book has arrived safe and sound in rainy Western Washington! I love the bookmark--what a great idea! I just finished the book I was reading so I will start reading this one right away. Thanks herchelle for the bookring and thanks jaenelle for sending it to me! I'll PM the next person in line now for their address so I'll have it when I'm ready...

As an avid reader, the idea of the characters in a book being aware of me and of me being physically in the story seems totally wonderful. Every reader's fantasy, right? But somehow this book just didn't strike a chord with me. The first half was interesting and fun. It's a childrens novel so I expected silly things to happen and didn't expect too much depth to the writing. But I found the second half of the novel to be just dull. The main character wanders around rather aimlessly for 200 pages and doesn't learn his lesson (to love yourself for who you are, mainly) until he has hit absolute rock bottom and it's painful watching him get there. This is a good lesson for kids and adults, but I thought it was told very shallowly. I'll cut it some slack for being a kids book and because it perhaps lost something in translation from its original German, but this certainly won't be going on my list of favorites.

I sent this book up north across the border to wolf-opus this morning. Thanks again to herchelle for sharing this book with me! I'm glad to have finally read it!

Journal Entry 21 by wolf-opus from Prince George, British Columbia Canada on Monday, April 6, 2009
The book arrived earlier this week from Eucalia. How thrilling! My first book-ring. I'm about a third of the way through, and can't put it down.

Journal Entry 23 by ArabellaFigg from Hull, East Yorkshire United Kingdom on Tuesday, May 26, 2009
Thank you wolf-opus. I have lots of bookrings at the moment but will start this as soon as poss.

Journal Entry 24 by ArabellaFigg from Hull, East Yorkshire United Kingdom on Thursday, July 2, 2009
Sorry for taking so long with this book, I've been a bit busy. Well, I liked the first part of the book and recognised a lot of it from the film, after that I wasn't quite sure about it, and didn't know whether to carry on with it. I'm glad I did because I did enjoy it. I did get really annoyed though whenever I read, 'but that is a different story to be told at another time', it really got on my nerves!
I will pm kryssa and try and get this book moving again as soon as possible.

Journal Entry 25 by Kryssa from a secret surprise!, A RABCK -- Controlled Releases on Wednesday, July 22, 2009
Thanks so much for sending this on to me, I have been reading about 1/3 of the way through the book and realised that I have not journalled yet! So the book has arrived with me safely, and also the lovely bookmark. Will update once I've finished reading.

Journal Entry 26 by Kryssa from a secret surprise!, A RABCK -- Controlled Releases on Wednesday, August 19, 2009
This book is wonderful, I really loved the film and the book is just as good, maybe even more as it expands on the sotrylines and introduces more that you would miss out on if you just watched the films. I think my favourite character is Yikka the pack mule! Her little role in the story is very sweet. And I loved the many-coloured desert, very fantastical and exciting to read. Thanks for sharing this wonderful book and I will pass on the next BC'er when I have their address.
