I was not in the mood to read Like The Flowing River by Paulo Coelho, a copy of which I had picked up as a birthday present for my lovely friend Louise. [see BCID 5371513]
I thought I would try a different book by Paulo Coelho. I decided on Manual of the Warrior of Light, which I had flipped through earlier in the day. I also thought it would make an ideal present for my lovely friend Iva.
As I sat in the Castle grounds in Guildford reading Manual of the Warrior of Light. I found I had made a big mistake. Compared with Like The Flowing River or The Alchemist, I found Manual of the Warrior of Light to be a grave disappointment.
Maybe I should persevere, maybe I will find a few gems.
I had thought of this as a birthday present for my lovely friend Iva, now I am not so sure.
'The Warrior of Light does not worry that, to others, his behaviour may seem quite mad. The warrior may seem mad, but this is just a disguise.' -- Paulo Coelho
'We are the warriors of light. With the strength of our love, of our will, we can change our destiny, and the destiny of many others.' -- Paulo Coelho
You have to be in the right mood to read Manual of the Warrior of Light, if not, you get nowhere.
This was the mistake I made when I first tried to read Manual of the Warrior of Light. I tried a week later, and I began to make headway.
It is also the way in which your read Manual of the Warrior of Light. It is not a book to curl up with of an evening, or on a pleasant sunny day sit and read under the shade of a tree or to try and relax with on the beach. That again was the mistake I made when I first tried to read it.
Instead, it is a book you read in spare moments, one or two pages, then sit and reflect.
You may wish to bookmark one or two pages, then return to for inspiration when needs must.
It is not an easy book. It is after all a manual!
As a result I will reappraise my rating, maybe give it a 7 or 8.
