Fannie Flagg is wonderfully warm and funny, and this may be her warmest, funniest book.

I picked this up at the Evanston Meetup. Thanks for bringing it! I enjoyed this movie and am interested in reading the book.
I loved this book! This is being added to the Can't Wait to Get to Heaven book ring by the same author. The movie was good but of course the book was even better. Idgie was such a funny character. Ninny Threadgoode was an amusing narrator.
received this book with Can't Wait to Get to Heaven. I have already read this one many years ago and think it was top notch so I will send it on with the other one!
I've already read this one, so I will send it along with the Can't Wait to Get to Heaven bookring when I finish it.
Sent on to jumpingin in Canada.

Thanks jumpingin! I just got it yesterday and I'm starting it immediately. Thank you also for the tea, I'm drinking it as we speak. I noticed there are recipes at the end of the book, the coconut cream pie sounds really good, I'll try it and let you know how it turned out when I finish reading the book. Take care.
My husband loved the coconut pie, I added a whipped cream topping. The Pecan Pie I'd made before, I also tried the Buttermilk Biscuits, Candied Yams and the Fried Green Tomatoes with gravy, of course; I'd never had them before, their delicious, I've copied the recipe. It's taken me a while to finish the book because I was often busy cooking rather than reading! I really enjoyed it though, like other books by Fannie Flagg they can make you both laugh and cry, I was thinking it would make a great theatre production, the movie is not nearly as good as the book. Thank you for sharing, I'll contact voveryte for her addy.

Such a lovely book! If honestly, I couldn't get into it at first and was quite annoyed by few characters. Later, when the story continued, I got more and more into it and couldn't put it down! Extraordinary story and extraordinary characters! I was still annoyed by few episodes at times, especially for Evelyn's unhealthy diet habits and Mrs. Threadgoode approving them, but at the end everything turns out well (sorry if it's a spoiler, though I don't think so as it's not the main story line anyway! :))
Mailed to kalise today. Thanks jumpingin for the opportunity to read this book and Rosella05 for passing it on to me.

This book is a real treat! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I've seen the movie several times before but that was a long time ago, and I also think that the book is a lot better (even though I also loved the movie). I've copied out some of the recipes and will definitely try them, especially the coconut pie (I already have the ingredients). :)
Thank you so much for sharing this book with me.
I've requested hippolein's address & will try to send on the book ASAP.

We're looking forward to reading the book!
Teddyke and hippolein finished the book now, was a wonderful read, as we had expected ;-)
Nice combination of some sort of detective story (who did what and where and to who) and of an explanation of the life in that part of the United States around World War One and then later on (nice way of jumping from time to time, didn't disturb the reading at all in this book, made it more clear).
You notice Fannie Flagg is a very talented writer!
The book continues to travel right away
as I promised it to Aspen72 in Turku :-)

Thank you for your generous draw, hippolein, and thank you for this book!! Actually this book caught my eye because of previous comments - I think something really funny would suit me really well at this time :-)
Edit 10.2.2009: Promised to send this to Honeybee101, Australia, after reading myself first.

I finished this a while ago, and it's been waiting posting since.
In a way interesting story, caught me and my curiosity at some point. It took some time to figure out the time frame of the book, and black-white politics and attitudes before 1960s (and maybe a bit still???), even though I have read couple of other books telling about those times. I liked that old lady Ninny - and forgot to copy the recipies :)
Now this book is on it's way to Australia. Happy reading!

Thanks for the book Aspen Yard. I can see that it has travelled quite a bit, starting off in Chicago and then from Finland to Australia. I'm in the middle of exams and assignments for the end of Semester but looking forward to reading this book in about two weeks time. Thanks for including me in this bookray.
