This book contains three stories published in the in the 50s - Hiding Place, Territory & The Master Key - and deals with adventures of Nicholas Van Rijn and the Polesotechnic League. Anderson tries to create realistic worlds based on real facts. Each story deals with the League (a loosely federated group of merchants) and its encounters with a new civilization. Each story is a little puzzle of how the League will deal successfully with new civilizations it encounters.

I liked this science fiction book of space-faring traders. I especially liked the challenge in the first story of trying to determine who were the crew and the cultural misunderstandings depicted in the last story. I look forward to reading the first book in the series, War of the Wing-Men.

Finished 7/23/2012

I picked this book up at the meet-up today because I remember someone was looking for sci-fi/fantasy books to wild release at a specific location. Now I just have to remember who or where that was. :)

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

This book and a couple others are headed for UT and my sister-in-law, minibear. Apparently when she was giving out BC books at the farmer's market this summer she had a request from someone she knows for sci-fi/fantasy type books. Here are some she can pass along.

Hi, Kylie Catsalive!

Strange, but soon I'll be in the city where Poul Anderson's daughter lives. Last time I was there, I had dinner with her and we talked about her famous storyteller father. And I met her famous storyteller husband.

I'm thinking about my own science fiction book. Maybe I'll read this book, instead of utilising its slender weight to carry it further around the world.

Journal Entry 12 by wingSkyringwing at Scope cafe in Stromlo, Australian Capital Territory Australia on Saturday, May 25, 2013

Released 10 yrs ago (5/25/2013 UTC) at Scope cafe in Stromlo, Australian Capital Territory Australia

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

Had a lovely afternoon meetup with the Canberra BookCrossers. Scope is the cafe, anongst the domes of the observatory, and from here the view is glorious, especially on a sunny afternoon.

A brownie that deserved to wear a medal, and a Swedish cider to wash it down. A table full of books, BookCrossers full of smiles and hugs, a fantastic way to see the sun go down.

I picked this book up today at Scope Café at Mt Stromlo Observatory, ACT. Thank you.
I was amused to see this book started its journey in Australia and after visits to the USA and Sweden it has returned. "Trader to the Stars": released at Mt Stromlo Observatory. I guess that makes it a themed release.
