Winkie
2 journalers for this copy...
After suffering decades of brutal neglect, Winkie, a mangy old teddy bear, ralises that he can actually move. He jumps out the window, and takes to the forest. But just as he is discovering the joys and wonders of mobility, self-determination, even love, Winkie''s luck ends.
Discovered by the military, who instantly conclude that he is the evil mastermind behind dozens of terrorist attacks, Winkie is brought to trial. In this War against Terror the prosecution will stop at nothing to get a conviction.
Scathingly funny, and not a little weird, ''Winkie'' brilliantly exposes the cruel absurdities of our age and explores what it means to be human in an increasingly barbaric world.

Journal Entry 4 by SabinaLorenz from Wien Bezirk 19 - Döbling, Wien Austria on Sunday, October 12, 2008
Wow... what can be said about a book, that is somehow funny and also rather sad, playful, serious, witty, grave and a very good description of today's fear of terrorists.
I loved the fact, that Winkie is a real bear, that has been loved and hugged by at least six children and seems to be loved even nowadays - otherwise why should Cliff Chse write a book about his teddy bear.
The pictures in the book reflect Winkie's character very well and made the book even more lovable.
After reading the book, I had to give a big hug to my teddy bear to make him feel still beloved - one never knows, whether he might feel as lonesome as Winkie did. (However my bear sits in my bedroom and is even allowed to go on holidays with me.)
