A Newbery medal winner. I'm reading them all.
Kira-Kira was a lovely book. Sad, but not soppy. Very intriguing. I especially liked its representations of ethnicity and class. It's rare to have such frank descriptions of labour union activities and working class in a current American children's book. Of course, all children's books represent social classes somehow, but they usually describe middle class, and don't really reflect on the class issue much. Kira-Kira does reflect on class, but isn't overly theoretical, either. All in all, a good read. I'm happy I bought the book.
Some bookcrossers expressed interest towards Kira-Kira in the last gathering. I'll see if I can find new readers for it soon. I'll want the book back after they're done, though. I'm going to include it in my personal collection. It was a birthday present from my boyfriend! (Well, he gave me a gift card, and I bought the book.)

Well, I got the book in the meeting. I don''t know how soon I have time to read this.

Got this book in the meeting today. RoryG wants to read it after me, and finally it goes back to Harmaja.
A lovely book, told from the point of view of a young Japanese-American girl. The story felt very real, and reading this book gave me a glimpse into the history of a time and place and people that I have previously not read about. I'm very glad I got a chance to read this, thank you harmaja!

I asked Harmaja if she wants this back, but she said I can release the book instead.
BookCrossing-miittiin tarjolle!
Kiitos Kira-Kira-suosituksesta ja miittiseurasta, CandyDarling!
