7 out of 10

First published in 1981, Strata is an early exploration of the idea that was to become the best-selling Discworld series.

erm...and then it appears I read it before you! Good exploration of the possibilities behind the discworld and the practicalities of making it work in practise (and fiction). Also a decent story in its own right, which was a bonus.

7 out of 10

This was a bit hit and miss. I loved the set-up to the Company making planets for people to live on, but once Kin, Marco and Silver made it to the "Flat Earth" it was a bit variable. I found myself losing interest at some of the hurdles they had to overcome to reach the centre, and thought it a little pointless. Strata was an interesting read from the perspective of it being an early work of Pratchett's, however he has surpassed it many times over.
