Recently read 'Three Men in a Boat' by the same author, so when I say this going cheap, I figured it was too good to turn down.

Apart from one astonishingly racist passage, this is a brilliant read. I guess you just have to accept that it was written before 1900, and is therefore unlikely to be entirely PC, but that particular section is still jarring. Anyway, as I say, that aside, it's a hugely entertaining read. The characters will be familiar to anyone who's read the author's masterpiece, 'Three Men in a Boat' and they are almost as entertaining here. Cycling through the Black Forest and journeying across Germany, they get into numerous scrapes, have various misunderstandings, and generally bicker as they go, each presuming himself superior to the next and all those around him. If you enjoyed 'Three Men in a Boat', this is well worth seeking out.

Picked this up at the Feb meet-up. I've got Three Men in a Boat on my wishlist, so, er, this feels kinda pre-emptive. But if my mum hasn't read it I'll pass it on to her for the time being.

Read as part of my 'Century of Books' project, reading a book published in each year of the 21st century. This was for 1900, the very beginning.

I will be reading Three Men in A Boat now, this was thoroughly enjoyable!
