This is another fun Hiaasen novel full of wacky characters. Don't judge the book by the awful Demi Moore movie!
From Publishers Weekly
Inventive blackmail schemes, grisly murders, power politics, greed, revenge and sex all figure in Hiaasen's ( Native Tongue ) latest comic crime novel. At the Eager Beaver, a topless bar in Fort Lauderdale, former FBI clerk Erin Grant dances nightly to pay for legal fees in her custody fight for her young daughter. There David Dilbeck, a poorly disguised, somewhat kinky and imbecilic U.S. Congressman owned by the state's sugar interests, is recognized by a sharp-eyed regular who, infatuated with Erin, initiates a blackmail plan meant to influence her court case. The resulting mayhem, occuring in an election year, involves machinations up to the highest state level, most of which are orchestrated by Dilbeck's arrogant, sleazy lawyer, and leads to an escalating body count that ends in a frenzied revenge caper arranged by the resourceful Erin deep in some sugarcane fields. Dead-on dialogue ("My boots are full of Vaseline," says Dilbeck one night, his only other clothing a black cowboy hat) and clearly limned characters from society's fringes--notably the taciturn, inventive Eager Beaver bouncer; a Cuban cop who works the case off hours; Erin's psychopathic ex, and his sister who raises hybrid wolves outside her double-wide trailer--round out this somewhat coincidence-ridden but consistently entertaining, warm-blooded tale.

thanks for sharing... i love hiaasen
I love hiaasen and was sad that i found this book difficult to read. i think b/c i knew that a movie i didn't like was based on a this book. even though i didn't remember everything in the movie i kept thinking back on it. i REALLY think that i would have enjoyed the book otherwise. the characters were fun and interesting and twisted.... classic hiaasen :)
This arrived in the mail over the weekend. Will begin ASAP.
I love Hiaasen, but found this book hard to read. I've never seen the movie and don't plan on ever doing so. I am glad I didn't give up on the book though. I've PMed Rrrcaron a few times now and finally posted an ISO...hopefully I get an address soon. (Perryfran asked me to skip Rrrcaron)

Received in mail yesterday. Thanks
Had to skim through this one because I have lots piling up. It was enjoyable. Sending off to marko167 soon.
Received safe and well. Hoowever,, I cannot remember signing up for this and I gave away a copy a couple of weeks ago, unread. Fate is telling me I must read this book. So be it. It is number 4 on Mount TBR so will be a couple of weeks.
This was a fun book. As I said previously, I actually had a copy in my possesion but didn't fancy the look of it so wild released it without a second thought. So when one arrived in the post I decided it must be fate.
I've never read Hiassen before and he strikes me from this book as being a write for movie author. The plot is relatively simple, the characters way out there and of course a bit of flesh never hurts.
The book was fun and an OK easy read.

I hang my head in shame. I just couldn't get in to this book, and after having it for a couple of weeks, I have finally given up. I'm sure that it IS a great book, but I just couldn't get into it. Couldn't identify with the characters. I think I got to chapter 7 and finally admitted defeat. Don't tell me, chapter 7 is when it starts to get really good, LOL.
So anyway, I am off to post this to the next in line, I hope you get on better with it than I did.

Thanks perryfran, I've got a few in front of this but hope to start this soon. Thanks again :-]
Although I've got Skin Tight on my bookshelf, this is the first Carl Hiaasen novel that I've read and I must say that I found it a very enjoyable, hilarious read. I must take more time to read books of this genre because I always enjoy reading them.
Funny thing: I must have been around 300 pages into this novel when I decided to do some research on Hiaasen and it was while looking at his website that I read that the Demi Moore film was based on this novel. I had seen the film but have absolutely no recollection of it so I'm not sure if that's because as young lad I was only interested in seeing Demi naked and paid no attention to the storyline or the book doesn't really represent the film, I'm sure you can make your own assumptions on that.
I thought this was a great satirical crime novel and an excellent read.
Thanks Perryfan for letting me join this ring, I've got boagat's address so this will be in the mail today.

Arrived today. It's the only bookring I have at the moment so will be next to be read.
Another fun, irreverent story from Carl Hiaasen. I didn't enjoy this one as much as I have others from him.
Bellamack no longer wants to read this book, so I will keep it travelling some other way.

Picked up at KC UnCon over the weekend of October 23-25, 2009.
Wow, this book has gotten around! I snagged it off the book buffet because I'm one of twelve people on the planet that liked the movie and I want to see if the book will be as good. I'll try to pass this off to another known BookCrosser, just because it's been in the system so long and I'd like to see how long we can keep it going!
