Peter Lanham based this story on an original story by A.S. Mopeli-Paulus Chiftain of Basutoland no isbn. Selected for Olympic Challenge - Lesotho
Goes to Hobbit.

I hate to pass this book along I wept for Moratu his wife and son and miss all those we met along the way. Fortunalty this book is going to a new home to be enjoyed by another passionate reader.

What a good story - thanks for sharing it, hendertuckian! I thought it had a lot of insight into the dilemma of someone caught in the midst of a changing culture. I, too, was sad for the characters in this story, and wished they could have ended up in the "promised land" where Moratu was living for such a short time.

This will count as my reading for Lesotho in the Olympic Challenge, and I'll offer it to other readers in that challenge since it's a small country and difficult to find books from there.

Yes, I agree with the previous readers that this was especially well written story from Africa. It made me think a lot how insecure life can be sometimes, so that you never know what will happen next. Thank you for sharing this book, I will send it soon to the next reader.

It took a while before I got started with the book but then I was hooked and kept reading it well after midnight. And shed tears in the end.

The story was fascinating and kept offering surprises all the way. This is a story of Monare's growth but also a story of Southern Africa. Even though it is an adventure, the book has lots of wisdom. I will count it as Lesotho in my "A book from every country challenge". Thank you for sharing it!

Like the previous readers I found the story quite pleasant. For me it was one of the best Africa reads (which I finished with this book, by the way).
It's full of sad stories, full of Apartheid, hate and resentment and on the next page full of wit and joy - with no happy ending :(

Thanks for sharing this book with us, hendertuckian!

Sheepseeker kindly passed this book on to me. As I'm especially interested in African literature and look out for African authors and their books quite some time now, I'm really happy to extend my collection. Thanks!
