"Suburban witches, defiant old ladies, ageing monsters, suicidal lottery winners, wolf men, dolphin women and middle-aged manufacturers of erotic leatherware: in these 22 short stories...the miraculous goes hand in hand with the mundane, the sour with the sweet, and the beautiful, the grotesque, the seductive and the disturbing are never more than one step away. Jigs and Reels shows a side to Joanne Harris you have never seen before."
I'm not usually a fan of short stories, and although I enjoyed a few of these, this is not one of my preferred books by Joanne Harris. The book was purchased after hearing a reading by Joanne in Wellington of her new novel, 'The Lollipop Shoes'. In her talk, she explained that the idea of the lollipop shoes was first explored in her short story, 'Faith and Hope go shopping'. This was one of my favourites in the book. I can relate to that story - everyone should own pair of fabulous lollipop shoes!
