Detective Eve Dallas is after a Casanova killer who woos women on the Web
Detective Eve Dallas is after a Casanova killer who woos women on the Web
Police Lieutenant Eve Dallas must find a Casanova who kills. Women meet their killer online. He says all the right things and arranges the perfect setting only to pump them full of date rape drugs and kill them. Dallas was a victim of rape and child abuse and this case hits a little too close to home.
The killer changes his appearance to suit his victim and seems to be able to hide his electronic trail rather well. Enter Roarke, Dallas' husband and owner of nearly everything. Roarke with his fancy equipment and superb technological ability assists Dallas.
Delia Peabody, Dallas's assistant and Ian McNab come to better terms about their on-off relationship.
This book is a good mystery but I love the continuing development of characters. Dallas is better at accepting help from Roarke but is as stubborn as ever when she is side-lined with the flu. I also liked the uncomfortableness when Dallas is asked for relationship advice from Peabody.

When a woman is found dead on the pavement, suspected of being thrown off her balcony, Lieutenant Eve Dallas is called to the scene. She brings her aide Peabody and they quickly determine that the woman was dead before she fell. Digging in to her past, Dallas finds that the woman was scheduled to meet a man she met in a chat room for poet enthusiasts. Following the threads, Dallas determines that the man she met drugged her with two different drugs and served her very expensive wine before raping and killing her.
Once again, Peabody and McNab are at each others throats for most of the book. When they finally get back together it's a bit of a relief. Hopefully it stays that way for the rest of the series because their whining is childish and annoying.
There's really nothing to say for this novel that I haven't said for every previous novel in the past. It was fun and thrilling at the same time!

I heard a lot of people say I should try this author once.
I didn't intend to , but this book was left over at the annual Castricum meeting, and it looks too mighty good for that ! I'll give it a try !
