Under platform 13 at King's Cross Station there is a secret door that leads to a magical island...
It appears only once every nine years. And when it opens, four mysterious figures step into the streets of London. A wizard, an ogre, a fey and a young hag have come to find the prince of their kingdom, stolen as a baby nine years before.
But the prince has become a horrible rich boy called Raymond Trottle who doesn't understand magic and is determined not to be rescued.
An enchanting book; I really enjoyed it. However, I could not but notice some features I knew well from another story:
I checked the dates - this book's a few years older than the other. ;-)

An enchanting book; I really enjoyed it. However, I could not but notice some features I knew well from another story:
- a door to another world, hidden on a platform at King's Cross,
- the other world's a world full of magic and magical beings,
- a nice boy living in a family who treat him like dirt,
- the nice boy's someone special in the other world
I checked the dates - this book's a few years older than the other. ;-)

arrived safely at the Packstation yesterday.
Since I''m currently reading Harry Potter I''ll pile this one up a bit since I don''t want to directly compare both stories.
I don''t think rotewoelfin will complain ;-)

Well, I already read this book in spite of actually still being attached to Harry in my mind - but it was lovely :-)
The parallel magical world Ibbotson is describing here is at least as fascinating and charming as Rowling's World of Harry Potter is.
But
Despite the obvious similarities DA-Cameron already listed, this book was completely different from the Harry-Potter-Stories, and so I really enjoyed reading (I was afraid I could be disappointed when the stories are too close, but I wasn't).
Sometimes I disliked Ibbotson's writing-style a bit. Can't really point out why, just a feeling.
I'm afraid I won't be able to mail the book before friday, maybe even next week, since I've got a lot to do at work at the mo' and the P.O. in Herdecke has really employee-ungracious opening-hours :-(

I´m looking forward to read this book!
I`ve read the book now and I really enjoyed it. I think, the story was great and my favourite persons are Ogde and the mistmaker. I want to have a mistmaker, too! ;-)
Though there are similarities to Harry Potter, the book has it`s own style and I really liked it. Of course you know from the beginning that there will be a Happy End, but that doesn`t spoil the fun.
Thank you for letting me join this very nice ring, DA-Cameron! I´ve got Jessi626´s adress, so the book will go on traveling tomorrow.

Traveling to Jessi626!
The book arrived today. Thank you Annieselan and DA-Cameron!
The book was easy and quick to read. I liked the story, although it was very obvious what's going to happen. I love the mistmaker, but why doesn't it have a name?
Will leave me on November, 2nd.

I read it today in the train. Had alot of fun while reading it! I think, the simlarities to H.P are marginal. May J.R. knew the book, but the story is completely different, I think.
I liked the story between Ben and Odge. Would have liked to know Ben's real name, though. The end moved me.
