Journal Entry 1 by hank-chinaski from Bielefeld, Nordrhein-Westfalen Germany on Wednesday, July 04, 2007
A very happy book, somehow makes you wanna sing out... be free... (remember the movie?). It's easy to understand and it's only 120 pages, so it's rewarding to read even if your English isn't perfect. Favorite quotation: An unhappy saint is a contradiction in terms

Journal Entry 6 by read-a-bit from Bremen, Bremen Germany on Thursday, August 14, 2008
Heute aus meinem Postfach geholt. Danke dafür! (-: edit 18.11.2008: Wow, I just finished this nice little book within some hours read. And what can I say? I enjoyed it as much as the movie. It is really sooooo well written with a lot of humor and irony. Just a GREAT read! I really recommend reading this one! Thanx for sharing it with us, hank-chinaski. Ah well, yes. My fave passages (page 77f): "[...] It´s an easy tree to climb." "But suppose you fall?" Maude had already started up. "I don´t think about it," she answered. "That´s unprofitable speculation and not worth my trouble." [...] "Imagine! Here we are, cradled in a living giant, looking over millions of others-and we´re part of it." "It takes your breath away,"[...] and (page 79): "Most people aren´t like you. They are locked up in themselves. They live in their castles-all alone. They´re like me." "Well, everyone lives in his own castle," said Maude. "But that´s no reason not to lower the drawbridge and go out on visits." Harold smiled. "But you agree that we live alone. And we die alone. Each in his own cell." Maude looked over the forest. "I suppose so. In a sense. That´s why we have to make them as pleasant as possible-full of good books and warm fires and memories. Still, in another sense, you can always jump the wall and sleep out under the stars." "Maybe," Harold said. "But that takes courage." "Why?" "Well, aren´t you afraid?" "Of what? The known I know, and the unknown I´d like to find out. Besides, I´ve got friends." "Who?" "Humanity." Harold smiled. "That´s a lot of friends. How do you know they´re all friendly?" "Well, the way I figure it, we´re all the same, and it´s just a question of us getting together. [...]" You have to mark the space to read all. I did not want to spoil things for new readers.
