This is basically ten CD-Rs which I have copied from original CDs comprising an audiobook I borrowed from the library. They are in a white CD storage case which will also contain some info about the book. I'm listening to the original at the moment (am about to start on CD 9) so I will journal my opinions here when I'm done with it. What I will say for now is that Jeremy Irons is absolutely fantastic at reading this book.

This is #563 on the 1001 Books You Must Read list.

From the cover:

‘ABOUT THE READER
Jeremy Irons plays the role of Humbert Humbert in the latest film version of Lolita. He has also starred in such films as The French Lieutenant’s Woman, Damage, Die Hard With A Vengeance and Reversal of Fortune for which he won an Academy Award. He won a Tony Award for his role in The Real Thing, while his performance in Brideshead Revisited was nominated for an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe.

BRIDESHEAD REVISITED
Charles Ryder’s friendship with the charming, irrepressible Sebastian Flyte and his equally charming, eccentric family begins when they are both Oxford undergraduates in 1923. Carefree days of drinking champagne and driving in the country soon end however as Sebastian’s health deteriorates and questions about mortality and religion are raised...

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Evelyn Waugh was born in London in 1903 and educated at Lancing and Hertford College, Oxford, where he read Modern History. His first novel, Decline and Fall, was soon followed by Vile Bodies and Black Mischief. For many years he lived with his wife and six children in the West Country. He died in 1966.

I finished listening to this book - well, the original copy, but still :-) - on Friday, July 6th. It took forever ... !! but it was actually very enjoyable, even so. I just am slow. Some insightful comments will be coming soon; watch this space.

The book is now available for readers interested in hearing it read. I do not want this audiobook to be wild released. I may offer it as a ring on the forums as it is one of the 1001 Books You Must Read.

Released 16 yrs ago (9/2/2007 UTC) at to a fellow bookcrosser in by hand, A Bookring -- Controlled Releases

Never got around to this. I now know audiobooks don't work for me, I'm not sure Leisha wants it back? Will bring it to Oxford and see what happens.

Found this gem from the Book Buffet in Oxford but it's first now that I get around journaling it. I've seen the TV-series, read the book and visited Castle Howard (which was Brideshead in the film) several times - I'm actually going there again in May. But Jeremy Irons, oh, he only has to read the shopping list and my feet will go all wobbly 😍😍😍.

Edit: Oh, I wish we had had an Oxford Revisited -tour viewing the Brideshead filming locations. Which were their colleges and digs on telly?

I had a very stressful day yesterday and when I drove to my friend's house in the evening I put Jeremy on in the car. Ooh - that honey of a voice soon relieved tension. The night was foggy - you only saw a few meters ahead - so the trip took longer than usual, but I didn't mind at all 😍. Sebastian has just puked inside from Charles' ground floor window.

CD 4 is playing at the moment, but I think number 3 went round three times as I was always somewhere in the traffic when it ended and needed both hands to keep Jeremy and me on the road. Life was still good, so I didn't mind the repetition. It's just now Cara has said that Sebastian drinks the way drunks do.
I think I will keep these CDs forever... It's VERY stressful at the home front right now and often stressful at work, but those 45 minutes with Jeremy before and after work are soooooo soothing. I feel like a new person when I get out of that car.

It's a small small world! I was listening to CD 4 for the umpteenth time when I realised the boys had been to The Turf, which was also one of Morse's hangouts. It's the place in Hell's Passage (nowadays St Helen's Passage) and indeed I would not like to venture there alone in the evening as it was really creepy with all twists and turns. But here is The Turf! We didn't go in, too small for a group like us.

Today I revisited the TV-location of Brideshead for the forth time and took a bunch of photos... They had a Canine Day to support guide dogs, so these giants were also there.

Oh dear. I remembered that Charles and Julia did not marry, but had forgotten why not and what else went on. I wish it would have had a happy ending.
I think Waugh must have taken some of the characters from real life, there was too much to pop out from one's own head. Must have been people he knew or had met.

I've listened each CD several times as they always ended at a time I was driving and once they had started I thought "What the heck, let it roll again". And often you heard things you had missed the first time, as trafic can distract you from time to time.

Jeremy ❤ has done a great job reading this, he really played all the characters well, very much like they were in the series. Stays in my Permanent Collection 💝.

Troubled times are here again and this is like Chicken Soup for the Soul. Or Honey to My Ears 💞. This CD really is a great stress reliever.

Have to do some serious house-cleaning, so it's time to pour honey to my ears again...
