I've enjoyed the previous books in this series.
Millie is going to sell her Adirondack estate to a nature conservancy. When, all of a sudden, on the day of the transfer, she disappears. And, who would guess it, but the search and rescue teams Rev. Claire with Chief Russ.

I like this series. The relationship between the priest and the cop is definitely heating up.
A kidnapping, a case of whay may be ecoterrorism, bomings, fire, a possible case of agoraphobia, plus the bishop is coming to town. But what this book really shows is the effect the global economy can have on one small town in upstate New York. It''s lika dominoes - one tile goes and a whole bunch of others follow.
One family sells their land to a global corporate giant (hq''d offshore) who needs some good press so the scheme is that they will hand the land over to a conservancy which will bring the land back to its "natural" state. Sounds great, doesn''t it? But how many companies are driven under because of that one handover.
This makes for some desperate people.
Spencer-fleming here takes multiple points of view and leads us through the story with a time line - much like the TV show 24.

I was delighted to see this at the Meetup, as I have read all the other books in the series. Thanks!
I'm most of the way through this, and so far it is my favorite in the series. I like the interweaving plot lines and overlapping characters--that makes sense for a novel set in a small town.
Okay, I have now read all of Julia Spencer-Fleming's books. She can write another one anytime now.
Entertaining and surprising. I like all the recurring characters in this series except for the British boyfriend--he doesn't ring true to me.
Marcus23, I agree with all your comments.
