Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow
21 journalers for this copy...
Peter Høeg has written a fantastic story about Smilla Jaspersen.
The blurb says:
"One winter evening the neighbour's sixyear-old boy falls to his death from the apartement roof in Copenhagen. Accidental death, say the police. But Smilla Jaspersen, a resourceful, tenacious and bloody-minded Greenlander, knows the boy well; moreover she has a feeling for snow - and those last footprints tell her a tale... Her investigation starts in Denmark and leads to the Artic ice cap as Smilla doggedly homes in om her quarry."
I'm making a bookring for this book.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
RELEASE NOTES:
Smilla starts her journey! First she will visit Fiellu in Finland, then tour Europe, before visiting Iran, Australia and the USA - not bad for someone from Greenland!
I wish her a good journey and happy reading to all of you.
The book dropped through my mailbox this morning. Will set it on top of my TBR-list and should get my hands on it within few days. Looking forward to reading this as have heard so much of it. Thanks Haugtussa for the book and the lovely card!
The book was facinating and when nearing the end I found it hard to let go. The book contained some wonderful ideas about cultural relations and differences (at least to me who is partly anthropologist). "Every attempt to compare cultures with the intention of determining which is the most developed will never be anything other than one more bullshit project of western culture's hatred of its own shadows. There is one way to understand another culture. Living it..."
I enjoyed the book a lot, in fact its one of the best books I've read this year! In the end it turned a bit too much towards american action movie-like scenes but I will forgive for that as Smilla's personality and thoughts were so facinating.
Will send the book forward as soon as I get the info from the next person... SENT: 20th of July.
Arrived well today - thanks for shipping and the nice card :)
Finished the book yesterday. Some parts of the books where difficult to read for me - I don''t understand every special word about the ship and every description of the different sorts of ice. But although, I really enjoyed reading this book!
The book is going to start it''s travel to French tomorrow :)
Book received today, thanks for passing it on
rotewoelfin!
I'll finish the book I'm reading right now and will get right on to this one:)
I absolutely loved this book when I started reading it and both loved the atmosphere and Peter Hoeg's writing style. I also found the way Hoeg depicts the relationship between the Greenlanders and the Danes very interesting. Unfortunately, I think the plot takes too much time to develop for my taste and things tend to drag on after a while.
Still, it was an interesting read:) Thanks for sharing Haugtussa!
I already have lisatam's address and will send her the book ASAP:)

This is letter H for my ABC Challenge 2007.
It has arrived safely! Will try to read it soonest. Thanks Haugtussa and Chich for sharing.
I am sorry I took longer than expected to read the book, but it was a very busy timing with some travelling in between! I enjoyed the story very much and ICE is indeed a fascinating subject! Fungaga and Dangerouswoman asked to be put at the end of the list so the book is now on its way to iliotropio - Belgium! Thanks again for sharing.
The book arrived safely in Brussels thanks to lisatam!
Intelligent, well-written and intriguing.
On its way to millycat. Happy reading!
Arrived today, just as I'd finished one book and was looking around for another!
It took me a little time to get into this book, as I found the switches between reflection and action a little confusing. I'm gald I stuck with it , though as by the end it was rivetting, page turning stuff that leaves the reader with a lot of questions. I leave it feeling slightly better informed about ice and snow, and having thought more deeply about the differences between the cultures depicted - so perhaps its next destination is a little ironic??!
It's also the first bookcrossing book that has prompted chance conversations with strangers - a chance to spread the word about bc!
the book is here. i'll start it after this one ring that i have in my hands and then would write more.
thanks for sharing.
thanks a lot for sharing this book. i really wanted to read it for a long time. actually, the type of writing didn't get me. i couldn't relate to the type of writing but i really liked the story.
thanks a gain for sharing.
i'll contact tqd for his/her address.
Arrived -- thank you for sending this Hengameh!
What a fantastic read. I loved it on several levels. Thought provoking, smart and completely suspenseful and engaging. I LOVED IT. I believe Hoeg has another book and I plan to check it out.
Thank you for sharing this with me--- I will be sending this out. Sorry for my delay getting to read this.

This is off to Massachusetts now!
Arrived safely here in Amherst, Massachusetts.
Aah! I've had this book for waayyy too long!
In short, I really did not enjoy this one. Smilla was an interesting character but the story never went anywhere. Note to readers: this one takes a WHILE to get through.
Off to the next in line when I get an address
ETA: Nothing from Supertalya. Shall PM the next in line.
ETA AGAIN: Sent off last week to Germany! Sorry for the lateness, Haugtussa!
The book arrived here safely. I read Smilla's Feeling for Snow year ago in German and loved it. Looking forward to read it again.
This was the second time I read the book. Everything about this book is so strinking and intense. I still love it. Now, it's on its way to Tubereader.
The book has arrived safely and will be the next I pick up for reading. I will update this JE once I start reading the book.
Thanks daisyflower123 for sharing and Haugtussa for sharing!!
30 JUN 09 update: just a quick note to let everybody know that I will start reading this book tonight. Will update and PM the next person in line when I am half way through...
I liked this book, but it took me a while to get into it. I was also a bit surprised by the ending, not sure I fully got it...
I very much liked the parts about the struggle between Greenlanders and Danes, I didn't know much about it...
Thanks again to Haugtussa for sharing!
I have PMed Ftarazu for their address and will post the book as soon as I have it.

Happy reading!
Thanks Tubereader - it has arrived here safely.
Also thanks Haugtussa for organising the ray - I have a few bookrays to read first, but will get to this as soon as possible. :-)
I can't make up my mind whether I liked this or not! I really enjoyed the descriptions of ice, snow and wind - not something you get to read about every day... There was the overwhelming feeling whilst reading that I had to keep going to find out what was going on, although I didn't like the character Smilla, and thought that her character would have been more suited to a man. Maybe there has been something lost in the translation of this book, but at times I felt like the story didn't really flow, and to be honest when the plot was finally revealed I felt it to be a bit flimsy. Overall, OKish, but personally speaking, I wouldn't have said it was a worthy 1001 entry. Thanks though for giving me the opportunity to read this book Haugtussa :)

I wasn't quite sure what to make of this book when I started to read it and the plot veered in a direction I was not expecting. It was a good book though and well written although I also found parts of it were hard to read.
Thanks so much for sharing this book and I will pass it on ASAP.

Received yesterday! Thanks!
I just loved the book to pieces. It wasn't an easy read, I agree, but I loved everything about it. I wouldn't call it a thriller, there's so much more behind the story. It's full of irony, deep thoughts and the heroine is just amazing.
So sorry for keeping this book for so long.
DryKid asked to be skipped, so contacting arturogrande.
20/02 - the book is travelling to arturogrande
Thanks very much - I'm hoping to be able to start this within a week.
I can't remember when I was as gripped by a book as I was by this one. The writing is superb and the language is beautiful. Smilla was a real, very rounded character I could believe in and unlike heroines in some novels, she didn't always do the right thing and made mistakes.
The sections at sea, describing the cold and ice, were fabulously evocative and the conflicts between Danes and Greenlanders added an extra dimension to the narrative.
I did feel that the ending tailed off somewhat, and the central plot driver didn't really stand up to too much scrutiny, but on the whole, it was a fabulous book.
I'm now waiting for an address from fungaga, and then it will be off on its travels again.
Thanks very much for sharing this wonderful book.
Arrived today. Thank you, arturogrande!

It is a great book, specially in what concerns all the information on ice and snow, that are completely strange for a mediterranian like myself. I enjoyed the way the author develops the plot and the end is not predictable or dissapointing. Thank you for this ring. I'll pass it to the next Bcer as soon as I have her address.

This was a fantastic read although it takes some time to get into the book, as some already stated. After you do so, you cant stop. I really loved it! I enjoy the author´s writing and all the description about people, cultural differences and ice. I’ve learned a bit about Denmark and ice. Also, Smilla’s character and thoughts were fascinating. But I don’t think I would go as far as getting into the ship just to understand what’s happening!
It was a great read, probably one of the best books I read … Thanks for sharing!
Im still waiting for an address to send the book to…

9.03. Giving up. It's a good story and I loved the film but I just don't like the author's writing style. Thank you for sending it round anyway.

I liked the mixture of philosophical and criminal novel very much (though I was a bit disappointed by the end-I would have liked a true dénouement).
