I picked this up at the Salvos store this morning, not far from where i work I don't get there often. They have 50 % off books at the moment.

I remember flicking through this book a while ago, I remember when Helen used to do breakfast radio with Mikey Robins. She's a recluse now, eh?

6 out of 10

Upon reading the first chapter of this book of collected essays (well, I guess that's what they are), I was suddenly taken back to my days as a fresh-faced uni student (when Helen was in her prime, I believe it was first year for me).

I could literally hear her narrating the whole thing, and for those who remember what her voice was like - you could only take a little bit of her at a time, otherwise your eardrums would start a mad protest and your mind would shutdown as fast as a computer with a virus.

This is why I only picked the chapters I found interesting. I read the first five but started to hear buzzing in my ears, and there's only so much feministic reading you can take. However, the chapters I did read were amusing but if I was that first-year uni student, I am sure I would have said it was hilarious and very post modern, going against the grain of the 20th century's current paradigm. ;P

Thanks for sharing id-rather-be-at - you've certainly got an interesting bookshelf!
