A Town Like Alice

I have read "On the Beach" a few months ago and liked it so much that it got me interested in reading other books by Nevil Shute... without any regrets as I really liked this book too. His writing is so interesting that I found it difficult to put the book down once started.
I just love his stories and his style, maybe because they all have a link with Australia.
From the back cover:
"Jean Paget has survived World War II as a prisoner of the Japanese in Malaya. After the war she comes into an inheritance that enables her to return to Malaya to repay the villagers who helped her to survive. But her return visit changes her life again when she discovers an Australian soldier she thought had died has survived. She goes to Australia in search of him and of the town he described to her. Jean sets out to apply the same determination that helped her to survive the war, to turning the community into 'a town like Alice'. She finds both her soldier and romance."

Book arrived today. Thanks nawoo82, looking forward to reading it!
I enjoyed this book, an amazing story. Not very PC by today's standards but it was written 60 years ago, a very different time.

This arrived in the post yesterday. Thanks so much, JPix! I probably won't be able to read it very soon, but I'll definitely journal and release it once I do.
Sorry for keeping this so long! I finally read it!
I enjoyed it a lot, though I found the first half more interesting than the second. It's a pity about the casual racism throughout, but otherwise very enjoyable. This was my first Shute, I will look out for others.
I will pass this on soon.
