Als je na het lezen van dit boek niet met andere ogen naar 'onze' wereld kijkt (of je het met de 'boodschap' nou eens bent of niet), dan weet ik het niet meer....

Mijn mening
Als je na het lezen van dit boek niet met andere ogen naar 'onze' wereld kijkt (of je het met de 'boodschap' nou eens bent of niet), dan weet ik het niet meer....

Dank je wel. Ik had net mijn andere boekring uit, dus ik zal dit meteen lezen.
I find the books by DQ really stimulating to read and think about, but I don't agree with his basic tenet, that tribal societies are worthy of reinstatement. He mentions that tribal societies maintained their way of life and identity by a claustrophobic attitude even towards their neighbouring villages, and I think his New Tribal Ventures in which tribes make a living together but don't share values is not an evolutionary stable strategy. I go into more detail, contrasting my assessment of new tribal ventures with intentional communities in my journal entry for Beyond civilization.
The form of The story of B is very similar to Plato's books on Socrates. They are philosophical ideas that are made easier to digest by presenting them as a dialogue. My objection (to both Plato and DQ) is that the antagonists are not realistic characters. Their function is obviously to argue unconvincingly against the protagonist, and thus give the impression that the protagonist's ideas are correct. In my opinion, the idea that the antichrist will not be the embodiment of evil, but will redirect our attention from salvation in the hereafter to "being the change we wish to see", is an original, valuable and potentially correct prediction. I even suspect that Christ herself was teaching this lesson.
"The world was made for Man, and Man was made to conquer and rule it."
"The world is a sacred place and a sacred process, [...] and we're part of it."
We can't say, "Well, yes, our civilization is built on an evolutionary unstable strategy but we can make it work anyhow, because we're humans."

Het boek is vandaag veilig aangekomen. Ik was erg verrast door een buitenlands pakje; had me niet gerealiseerd dat deze ring zo ver moest reizen. Dankjewel voor het opsturen!
Wat een geweldig boek!
Op mijn website schreef ik: Een Amerikaans priester wordt door zijn orde, die zich richten op het vinden van de Antichrist, naar Europa gestuurd. Daar zou een man zijn die een boodschap verkondigt die zo radicaal is, dat hij de titel Antichrist verdient. Jared gaat op zoek en komt dicht bij de verteller, die zich B noemt, te staan. Maar is B de Antichrist? Conclusie: Bijzonder indrukwekkend boek, dat je doet nadenken over de essentie van ons bestaan.
Het boek gaat 09/04/08 per post terug naar huis.
