Really struggled to getb through this book so didn't finish in end. Trade with chucklesthe scot.
Thank you for this wishlist book and great postcard which arrived today! Pegasus will be flying your way in a few days time! Thanks very much for the trade, and it is always good to hear from you xx
Like wibba, I just couldn't get into this at all. It was so slow and drawn out and all we were hearing about was endless description of the house she was working in. *Yawn* I never even got as far as Hong Kong being invaded!

Thank you very much for this wishlist-RABCK, chuckles! It arrived today in good shape.
I have a few ;-) other books to read too, but I hope to get to it soon, since I seem to be in an Asian reading mood.
I'm sorry to hear that two of the previous readers did not like this book. I hope to finish it (1) and give a more positive review (2), but I'll have to wait and read first.

What an interesting and nice book this was.
I have put off reading it for quite some time, I'm not exactly sure why. It may have been the cover, or the mention of 'dramatic story' in the blurp on the back cover.
The book is not dramatic in the sense of 'exaggerated'. It is Pei and Ji Shen's story in all its beauty and ugliness.
The book was interesting, because I had no idea that the Japanese had also invaded and occupied so much of China and Hong Kong. I guess one's never too old to learn :-)

I will put it on the recommendations table :-)
Got it from the recommendations table at the Castricum meetup. I loved 'The Women of the Silk', so I'm really looking forward to this!
It took me a while to get round to reading this, and it's been a while since I read "Women of the Silk", so I couldn't really remember the story. Luckily this book mentions the events as a reminder where necessary. I think I enjoyed Women of the Silk more than this, but it was nice to get the next part of the story and interesting to read about Hong Kong during the war. I enjoyed it very much, thanks for sharing!
Taking it to Tilburg to hand to oehoeboeroe.
today i met fifna and she gave me this book. I've been reading 'women of the silk' i think more about 20 years ago during a holiday and i remember i didn't want to stop reading. That's all i remember, but i'm curious about this book!
i did enjoy reading this book. Not as much as i remember enjoying 'the women of the silk' but it was a good read. I planned to take the book to tampere next month. I hope it will find a new reader there.
