Bookcrossers are great. I'd never met GlitterLover before, but she brought this to the Uncon for me because she'd seen it on my wishlist. What a star! Thanks so much!
Journal Entry 4 by dododumpling from St. Neots, Cambridgeshire United Kingdom on Monday, December 31, 2007
I'm afraid that I really struggled with this - a surprise, as I had loved the first two books and raced through them. I don't know why this was: perhaps it was the fact that I read all three back-to-back, and by the time I got to The Amber Spyglass, I was all other-worlded-out. I didn't like the Gallivespians or the Mulefa, thinking them "unrealistic". Again, I have no idea why this should be as they are no more fantastic than the armoured bears or witches we had already been introduced to! In addition, I got lost as to where Lord Asriel and Mrs Coulter's allegiances lay - I had it sussed by the end, though.
All that said, I'm very pleased to have read this trilogy and I did find the story improved (for me) towards the end of the book, and I found myself nodding in agreement with the way things resolved and the message.
