This probably would have been more enjoyable if I had seen the movie it's based on first--the book is abbreviated enough that I'm sure I missed some of the plot nuances (like, what was up with Lois Lane and the cigarettes?) And speaking of Lois, I'll be honest here and say that I like to see Superman beating up on the bad guys, but I don't really care about his personal life. Guess I'm just too old school! But, at least they still have Jimmie Olsen wearing a bow tie :-)

Liked the action but not the soap opera.

I'm a classic BookCrosser and I don't approve of releasing books through the mail as wild releases... but this time it gave me a chance to click that little 'if you left this book where you found it' box for the first time! And I definitely don't approve of taking books out of bookboxes to read them and then putting them back in again... but I'm doing it in this case because it was such a quick read while I wait for the next person's address and it's such a beautiful graphic novel I couldn't resist.

I enjoyed the movie, and I enjoyed this adaptation. I think there's a bit of irony in having a comic based on a movie based on a comic ;-) Definitely a few key points (such as certain things about Lois' son) were left out of this book, but I liked it because I do like a balance of action and... soap opera-ness :-) I agree it (like the movie) is heavy on the drama, and this book definitely concentrates on that part more; if I hadn't seen the movie I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much. I especially love what the artist did with Lex. The art is gorgeous and I felt like the emotion and story just jumped right out.

A nice, enjoyable read. I'm putting it back in Minerva101's bookbox to travel onward and find another reader!

This book was okay. I'm putting it back in the manga book box. My mom might want to read it real quick. She loves Superman.

Yes, I do love Superman! I don't see the point of a book adapted from a movie, a movie adapted from a book, sure, I understand that! I liked the movie but I am biased and just love Superman period. I didn't care for the plot of the movie, but it was beautifully done. I also didn't care for Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane. Ah, well, I miss Christopher Reeve! He was the best!

I simply have to laugh at the comment about "a comic based on a movie based on a comic." Well, this superman is not as handsome as the movie version, whom my gay friend claims have "perfect skin". (well we saw the movie at IMAX so I could attest that he has much better skin than Lois Lane...)

The comic cuts out so much from the movie that I wish the artist has an extra 20 or so pages to delve deeper into the story. He did an admirable job now but a longer version would be better, IMO.

This book is now heading to Minerva101.

This book arrived in my book box today. What a fun book to include! I haven't seen the movie so I am sure that any flaws with the book will go un-noticed (grin).
I do enjoy Superman and superheroes though - so it should be an enjoyable read for me and my kids.
Thanks!

Sorry for taking so long to journal this. I enjoyed it, as did my son. The artwork is great. Though I am with Bibliocrates - I miss Christopher Reeve, too :(
I am going to pass this book along to a fellow bookcrosser.
