Picking this book up from Freecycle was my first attempt to read some of Iris Murdoch's fiction. Alas it has failed, as I am leaving the UK in jst over a week and I have not yet read it! I'll definitely try again once I'm back in Aus, but in the mean time I'm going to try and give this copy out as a RABCK...

I read this not knowing exactly what to expect. It's basically the story of a network of people each unhappy with their relationship, but having to deal with it in the confines of society's expectations. Some are selfish, others so self effacing it made me want to shout at the book. Altogether I found it poignant and a good read.
