I recently purchased this title as part of my project to read all Transita's publications! I have yet to read, but as I plan to release all Transita books I have purchased as Bookrays, marking as AVL so that other Transita fans will maybe let me know now of their interest in reading this title.

Book Description:Amazon.co.uk
When Gwen MacIvor is widowed she surprises everyone by embarking on an entirely new life. She buys a derelict tower by the sea, sets about restoring it, takes a lover, and a job, studies astrology and learns to enjoy life – at long last. Unfortunately, her daughter Eleanor – a successful executive of 30+ - has other plans for her. For Eleanor is pregnant and intends to go back to work as soon as her baby is born.
Naturally she assumes that her mother will bring the baby up. It is not an assumption Gwen shares.

4th October just finished this one.

Although I have read Beryl Kingston’s work in the past I have not done so since 1998 and I do not have any particular recollections of them! So I am sure that if this had not been a Transita publication I would not have shown any interest.
This was just another forgettable novel, one of just a few of the Transita titles that I have been unimpressed with. This made no impact on me what so ever, it is just another run of the mill modern and predictable slushy romance. Recently widowed at a fairly young age the protagonist is making a new life for herself, not behaving at all like the mother her daughters are used to having around. They are used to having their mother there for them, especially now she is about to become a grandmother. A contemporary dilemma dealt with in a story that is Ok for a curl up by the fire type of read, far from demanding.

I have now worked out a running order for all the Transita titles that I am organising Bookrays for. It is a very similar order for each title. To try and avoid them all ending up with one person, I will stagger the starting dates. Please try and read and pass on within less than a month, thankyou.

Journal Entry 5 by Mallary from Ginestas, Languedoc-Roussillon France on Thursday, October 25, 2007
This book has arrived safely in France. Thank you for sending it to me first, I will get started asap!

Journal Entry 6 by Mallary from Ginestas, Languedoc-Roussillon France on Monday, November 19, 2007
I did enjoy this book although at times I really had to grit my teeth because the characters were so frustrating!
I admired Gwen's honesty about her unhappy marriage and her strength of character to go and live by the sea, make new friends and find a new job. I found her relationship with Jeff Langley slightly rushed and I didn't feel any empathy with them over it. I also felt awkward for her girls turning up and Jeff in bare feet wandering around their mother's house (they really should have phoned first!). Also, I was gutted when I reached the part about Jet on Bonfire Night. Poor baby.
The ending was mushy and a bit too twee but maybe that's just me!
Thank you for making me first in this bookring so I can finish my Transita Challenge; I shall now pm dear Cross-patch and post it on.

It's here, it's here!! I'm going into hibernation to catch up with my reading! Thank you LindyLouMac and Mallary for getting Neptun's Daughter here. I hope she enjoys Christmas at the home of the Lane family.

Update. I am reading Neptune's Daughter now and hope to get it on its way in the next couple of days. Christmas brought all of my reading to a halt, sorry.

I agree mostly. But I did enjoy it in a curl up in front of a roaring fire sort of way. It followed the rules of romance fiction with the ups and downs in the right places after all. So, thank you, LindyLouMac, for making this title available; I am grateful.
I'm just waiting for the OK from Midlifecrisis before I send it on its way.

Midlifecrisis has asked to be skipped for this one, so I have pm'd Herrgirl and am awaiting a reply

Journal Entry 9 by herrgirl from Vale of White Horse, Oxfordshire United Kingdom on Wednesday, January 23, 2008
Received today, thanks for sending it on, cross-patch, and LindyLouMac for sharing all these Transita titles. The last one I read was awful, so I was hoping for an improvement with this one - but in view of the other comments, I'm not holding my breath!

Journal Entry 10 by herrgirl from Vale of White Horse, Oxfordshire United Kingdom on Thursday, January 31, 2008
I enjoyed this as a cosy, women's magazine at the hairdresser sort of story. Pleasant enough, but with no great depth, and nothing to really get you thinking. I didn't like the villagers' perception of Gwen as a witch, in this day and age and in a seaside place where plenty of "outsiders" would have gone, this didn't ring true.

I have PM'd birmingham-rose.

Journal Entry 11 by herrgirl from Vale of White Horse, Oxfordshire United Kingdom on Thursday, January 31, 2008
Birmingham-rose wants to be moved further down the list so I have contacted annodyne for her address.

On its way to annodyne today.

Journal Entry 13 by Annodyne from Sale, Cheshire United Kingdom on Monday, February 11, 2008
This actually arrived on Friday 8th Feb, and is next but one on my pile of priority reads. Thank you once again to herrgirl for passing it on, and to LindyLouMack in her generosity for making these Transitas available.

Journal Entry 14 by Annodyne from Sale, Cheshire United Kingdom on Thursday, February 28, 2008
I don't know why it has taken me so long to finish this book. It is a good enough read, but no page-turner, and I found the pace pretty slow.

Good old Gwen was nice, but Jeff was, worryingly, a bit of a bully. (I'd be interested to see what that relationship was like 6 or 7 years down the line!) I do quite like flawed characters however, and hats off to Beryl Kingston for recognising that even the people we love the most can be far from perfect.

Sent on its way to waderwoman today.

Journal Entry 15 by waderwoman on Saturday, March 1, 2008
Thanks Annodyne, this arrived safely this morning- I have popped it next to my bed ready to read next!

Journal Entry 16 by waderwoman on Monday, March 17, 2008
Have just finished-Its not the most gripping of books. I found it a bit too chicklitty and the characters were all a bit predictable and shallow. I really liked the sound of the area though and the tower sounded great! I don't think I'll bothere with another of her books though.
I am sending it off to Inver now, and as it has a greenish cover I shall count it as
#37 Irish Release and also
#2 In The family challenge!

Safe journey little book.

Journal Entry 17 by Inver from Aberdeen, Scotland United Kingdom on Wednesday, March 19, 2008
With me now. Mixed reactions to this one. Will see how I get on with it. One other bookring before I get to this one.

3/4/08 3/4 way through.

Journal Entry 18 by Inver from Aberdeen, Scotland United Kingdom on Saturday, April 5, 2008
Quick, enjoyable enough read, not over taxing. No outstanding characters and found the ending a bit 'they all lived happily ever after', but glad it did work out for everyone. Would be interesting to actually see inside 'the tower'. I did admire Gwen though how she stuck to her guns about things that people thought she would automatically agree to do and didn't!

Awaiting word from birmingham-rose, but have a feeling she may have to be skipped, think she was moving house. Will give it a few more days

Journal Entry 19 by Inver from Aberdeen, Scotland United Kingdom on Wednesday, April 16, 2008

On the way to Maireen in Italy!

Journal Entry 24 by LindyLouMac from Tywyn, Wales United Kingdom on Sunday, June 29, 2008
I spoke to Maireen on the telephone yesterday and as she is without internet access at the moment promised to post that this book arrived safely with her. Thanks to BOKWORMY.

Journal Entry 25 by Maireen from Viterbo, Lazio Italy on Wednesday, July 16, 2008
OK, not much depth to the characters. Enjoyed the first half of the book - an easy read.

Sent a book to Melamura just today . . this one will be off to her on my next trip to the PO.

Journal Entry 26 by Melamura from Montefiascone, Lazio Italy on Saturday, August 30, 2008
I really enjoyed this book, yes I agree it's not overly taxing but it's a nice story. It had a little more substance than the other Transita titles I have read and you can tell that the author has written quite a few books. The trouble with some Transita books is that they are new authors and the stories are a little flimsy.will be on its way to Suffolk Barnowl asap.

Journal Entry 27 by Suffolk-Barnowl from Eye, Suffolk United Kingdom on Saturday, December 13, 2008
Not a particular gripping story. Fairly readable but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy this book.

Journal Entry 28 by birmingham-rose from Burntwood, Staffordshire United Kingdom on Friday, December 26, 2008
Received on Christmas Eve - just in time for the big day. Its been a bit hectic here for the last few weeks so won't be able to get to it straight away but it will be next on mount tbr.........

Journal Entry 29 by birmingham-rose from Burntwood, Staffordshire United Kingdom on Tuesday, January 27, 2009
I did enjoy the storyline. I'm pleased that I kept reading although I did find that I could work out how it was going to finish. Overall a pleasing story although not everyone has had the same opinion.

I am at the end of this ray so will now have to think of a suitable release. Not sure whether it will be a truly wild release or to a bookcrossing zone. Will make available on my bookshelf while I think..........
