11 journalers for this copy...
This was a complimentary copy sent to the library office a while back...took it home to read...but didn't. It was an Oprah's Book Club edition.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
I have picked this book up at least a dozen times since working at Borders, always thinking I'd like to read it, but never actually purchasing it. I am glad I will finally get a chance to sit down with it. Thank you Sicire for bringing it to the meet-up! I hope to release this in UK next month.
This is going out on a bookring before I read it.

Received the book today, it didn't take long at all 5 days surface mail, good time! This is exciting, even though I am signed up for a few bookrings, this is the first book I have received. I guess it helps being first on the list :) Lucky Me! I am not a very fast reader but I will try my best to read as quickly as I can so this book can continue it's journey :)
Thanks Zmrzlina for starting this book ring and thanks to Sicire for sending this book out into the world :)

Starting reading only a few days ago, sorry about the delay, I had another book I had to finish before starting this one. Having said that I am making slow progress, as it is taking me a while to get into it. But I will try and see how it goes. If it turns out that I can't seem to make it through I will send it on the next person asap and apologise for the delay.
Sorry it has been almost a month since my last entry, and I must confess I haven't made that much more progress with the book. I am/was enjoying it, but it's almost to large a feat at the moment. I must apologise for my delay with this book. Thanks again for sending it to me, maybe I will find it again, at someother time and be ready to read more then.
To be sent to Kaliepriestess tomorrow.

Received this book a few days ago but wasn't able to post an entry until our new computer was set up. I'm always interested in anything related to India, so I'm drawn to books set in India or with East Indian themes. I'm not sure if anyone who has posted has read it! If not, I hope I will be the first!!
This was not only an excellent read, but also a history lesson. I'm very interested in India, but most of my knowledge is of Hinduism. I learned so much about India's tumultuous history from this book. At the same time, I was caught up in a story about the lives of the characters as they struggled through and I cared about them all. Many thanks to Zmrzlina for this ring.

I have finally received this book in the mail today. It's on my list to read for December. I hope to get it out to tho by the New Year or sooner. I'm really looking forward to reading this one. Thanks!
It has been 4 months since my last journal entry. How dreadful!! A few reasons exist: I was to be setting off for an 8 month trip to Europe this summer to work and travel. tho and I have been in touch many times regarding several books and my trip to Spain. She had persuaded me to visit beautiful Lisbon on my travels. I was set to visit her and other Lisbon bookcrossers right about this date, actually. We had agreed I would take my time reading and hand this book off to her personally. But a few weeks ago, the trip was cancelled for a myriad of reasons.
I have only finished up to Part V of this book (252 pages). It's a deep read requiring the attention and patience I don't seem to have right now. I have finally decided to send it on to her and keep this bookring moving. I'm so sorry for the delay! I'm going to put this book back on my wishlist in hopes I will encounter it again one day when I am ready for it. The characters are wonderful in this book and I love how the author takes time to explain the history and story of each one providing a detailed tour of India, its people, and politics. I've reached the part where the story would be coming together with all the charcters in Dina's small apartment. I shall pick up where I left off....another time.
Thank you so much to zmrzlina for having the patience to send this book off on a bookring without having read it herself!! Please forgive my selfishness! And tho, I truly hope to meet you and see your city one day when it is meant for me! Thank you for waiting!

What can I say ? Rohinton Mistry is a great storyteller, and manages to hold your attention from start to finish with this book. The characters are unforgettable, the history very well researched, and it's amazing how every small detail seems to be important. It's also such a sad story, a real struggle for survival, and I sometimes couldn't help feeling frustrated and angry at all the injustice that is portrayed. I really enjoyed this book, my favourite chapter was when everyone was living together under Dina's roof and overcame their prejudices to become good friends, despite the big difference in their backgrounds.
Will be passed to Zyana soon.
Update 24/05: It was mailed to Zyana last week - sorry for the delay, I was trying to hand it personally but we didn't get the chance to meet during the weekend.
