Catching the Current
2 journalers for this copy...
This book is the third by this author. The first two - The Denniston Rose and Heart of Gold were the story of a child growing up in the coal mining town of Denniston on the West Coast of New Zealand and both good reads. This third book is the story of one of the characters that appear in both the first books. I enjoyed the first two books immensely. This book was also enjoyable but a little different. It would help to read the first two books to aid the reader the understanding of Catching the Current.
Picked up at this morning's meetup. Great to meet you, keenreda, and hope to see you at the next meetup.

I haven't read Denniston Rose or Heart of Coal, so I probably missed a lot in this book, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. A fascinating story of the end of one way of life in the Faroe Islands, and the beginnings of another in the European settlements of New Zealand. I found the descriptions of life in the Faroes particularly fascinating, and that of the sea battle - I learnt a lot of new things, which is always a good outcome from reading a book!
The story was a little contrived at times, but overall a good read.
To be handed on to Awhina next (Lytteltonwitch had already found another copy).
