Brokeback Mountain
6 journalers for this copy...
I bought this copy at a library used book sale- well worth the fifty cents :-) I have my own copy already in my PC so I'm BookCrossing with this one.
The only way for me to describe this story is heart-wrenchingly beautiful. I saw the movie first, which was nice because I pictured them throughout. And even though I obviously knew what would happen, I LOVED reading it, and really taking my time with every little detail.
Annie's characters really jump out from the pages at you. Even though this is short, it's so incredible and compelling, emotional and gorgeous, that you don't notice how short it is. It's perfect... and fantastic... it comes to life so vividly.
I gotta say, Brokeback got me good, too.

I've already read this, so I won't keep the book, but I did want to add my comments before sending it on its way with the rest of the LGBT book box.
This is the movie-tie-in edition of the short story, which I originally read as part of the Close Range: Wyoming Stories collection. I thoroughly enjoyed the story of two ranch hands who fall in love; it conveys more emotion and more story in fewer words and less dialog than almost any other tale I can remember. Proulx can be very, very spare in her story-telling, and this tale is barely sketched and yet startlingly vivid...

Excellent story. I cried by eyes out by the end.
Came back to me in the LGBT Bookbox. Sorry none of the participants wanted it for keeps. I shall try to find it another home elsewhere!
