Haunted by the disappearance of her mother eight years before, no-nonsense prosecutor Jess Koster is shattered when the client she is defending from a brutal rapist also vanishes into thin air. Jess thinks she has conquered the crippling panic attacks that have plagued her since the disappearance of her mother 8 years ago, but now they're back with a vengeance. Jess is in danger of going under, and it looks as though someone is determined that she should disappear too.
