William Golding always entertains me with his unique stories. I spotted this at the used bookstore and had to buy it. This copy is a newer trade paperback, so the cover is different from the one pictured here.

I can see why many think this is Golding''s best novel. I''ve only read three and this is by far my favorite. The way he lets us into the heads of these primative beings through his prose is brilliant. It''s too bad that Golding is largely remembered by LORD OF THE FLIES, there''s a lot more to this great author. I''ll be sending this book back to time-traveler shortly. Thanks for sharing.

Well snail mail finally delivered. I'm glad you enjoyed the book so much, petaloka - it makes me want to read it even more. Oh, and thanks for adding the labels to the book!

I agree it's a shame that Golding is remembered primarily for Lord of the Flies. This was interesting and well written. I didn't enjoy it as much as Pincher Martin, but I can see why it's your favorite so far, petaloka.

This is going in sweetsangria's Bizarre Bookbox, and I'm taking out Darkness Visible, also by William Golding.
