Another in the William and Charlotte Pitt detective series set in Victorian London. The major interest for me was the historical background. One reads a lot about Cecil Rhodes and the Jamieson raid from a local (South African) point of view. This book supplies a London political perspective to the 'Scramble for Africa'. It also gives an interesting take on loyalty and the relationships between men and women at the time. I think the detective side is a little weak, but it is very readable.
