I'm fond of real-life "gory details", including those from the medical world, so when I saw this book on the "3 for the price of 2" rack at Borders I decided to nab it.

Later: Fascinating and often disturbing looks at the training and practice of surgeons; makes one look at all those hospital dramas (and real-life hospitals!) with a new eye... Discussions of cover-ups of doctors who are burned out or simply incompetent, the burdens of malpractice suits - and that's just the management side of things. Advances in the study and treatment of pain reveal that what seems a fairly simple concept might be much more complex (and thus harder to treat consistently). The nature of nausea (my least favorite symptom {wry grin}; blushes that can range from mild to "pathological"; and the latest boogeyman in a bevy of scary syndromes, necrotizing fasciitis - these and more are discussed here, with examples, treatment options, and likely results.
