Wow! look what I found in my mail box today. I'm sure I will enjoy this one. Will be able to start treading in about a day or two. Thanks Shausha for sending the book.
I really can't say I liked or disliked this book. There were so many characters and themes wern't well developed. I started and stopped reading so many times, but finally finished. I kept thinking it had to get better, it didn't. I think I was really disappointed in the text of this book.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
RELEASE NOTES:
Sending this book along to the next person in bookray. Its going to Plymouth Meeting, Pa.
Arrived in the mail today. I'm looking forward to this one. Thanks for sharing, Shausha!
Very much enjoyed this book. Maguire does a masterly job of making OZ a believable alternate universe with complicated characters, political allegory and realistic settings. I was a little disappointed in the ending - felt it was a bit rushed and followed the "story" a little too closely. I would have been ok if Maguire decided to take more literary license, especially since the rest of the book was so imaginative.
Thanks for sharing Shausha!
It's off to jmsmom to today.
Qualifies as #5 in 2008 Keep Them Moving Challenge.
This book arrived while I was on vacation. I'll pm the next person and try to get it read a sent on soon. Thanks for sending it.
Not as good as I expected. A few times I had trouble following it, could have been just me. Overall it was okay though. I'll try to get it off to ethlarnold tomorrow.

Got the book from jmsmom and finally finished reading it today, sorry I didn't post when it arrived! I will send a PM to itpdx so it can continue the journey. There are a few pages that are falling out, but they are all still here, you just have to be careful about opening the binding too much around that section.
I was also a little disappointed with this book. I wanted so much more to happen after all the characters went through was so forming to their growth. I felt that all the care put into developing the characters was fantastic, but the end did feel rushed and disjointed, like the author just wanted to get it finished and 'follow the story' as another reader put it. The musical is coming to our town soon, and now I'm wondering why it is being raved about...
George Maguire has an interesting mind. This book is his answer to the question: where did the Wicked Witch of the West come from in the Wizard of Oz?
The musical picks up many elements of the book and follows the story arc but, leaves much out and ends differently.

On its way to Nine-Mile.
Released for the 2008 Keep Them Moving Challenge.
Just arrived by post. I am excited to read this one and will do my best to keep it moving cross your fingers for me, that I get free time to read it. It's taking me a bit longer to read books of late, with the new baby and all, but I fully expect to have this one back out by the month deadline at latest. Thanks for sharing this one Shausha.
I've finally finished the story; so sorry for holding it as long as I did. It was very hard to make time for with my new baby and all of my Christmas preparations (begun in July). But I have finished and am not quite sure what to make of it, really. I am left with quite a few questions. I AM however looking forward to discussing the book with those firends and family who I know have read, if not particularly enjoyed the novel... Should be in the mail on Monday.

On it's way; enjoy!
I just got this and will read as soon as I get the chance. I am in the middle of a bookray book right now and may not be able to start this one until after the holidays since it is pretty crazy around here during that time. I'll be as quick as I can though! Also, FYI, the book is looking a bit worn and has several pages falling out. I will try to mend it before sending it out. I do a little book mending at the library where I work so I have some books covers that will help keep the spine and cover sturdy enough to make it through the rest of the ray. I'll try my best with the pages as well.
**UPDATE**
The book is in pretty dismal shape. I tried to read it but the pages kept falling out. I posted on the bookrays forum to see if anyone had a replacemtn copy for us. Collegelady will be sending me a copy and since it is an unregistered book I will register it with them same BCID number as this one.

I have the new replacement copy. I have two rays in the mail today along with this book so I will get started on this one as soon as I can.

I thought this book was very good. I have been dying to see the musical and have been listening to the CD. I thought the witch's point of view was very interesting although I am still unsure if I will read the other books.
Sending off to clawdette today.
received 2/3/09..will journal when read
Well, after trying my hardest to get into this book, I was disappointed that I couldn't. So, instead of keeping it longer and not enjoying it, I am passing it on to the next reader today.
Book has arrived this weekend under a foot of snow... It might have been cold outside, but seeing the postman with a new book makes me feel all warm inside. I'll be sitting down with this tonight. My thanks go out to Shausha and clawdette for sending the book on. I'll send it on within the week.
I'm not sure what I was hoping to expect from this book... I agree with a general perception that I find is held by a few of the book's past readers. This novel was difficult to follow, and it would seem to me that the entire novel, save for the end, served no purpose.
Gregory Macguire did an excellent job telling a life story, but I could not find the purpose for doing so... It is a book that I had to fight to toss off my ballycumber stack, I just felt no progression to his work that would keep me interested in what was occuring.

This is my first attempt at using those funny postal bags that the BookCrossing Supply Store just put out recently, so I wonder how it will turn out at the other end?
